Why is it so hard to find new old socket motherboards?

What I mean is that if you go to Newegg or eBay and look up LGA775 motherboards the only non OEM motherboards are much more expensive than new current socket motherboards! This even stays true for LGA1155 which just why???

If I had to guess they don't make them anymore or something like that which makes them rarer and harder to find?

It's the same with LGA 1366 boards. I've been hunting down boards for my X5670 and the prices are through the roof on retailer's pages. I've seen them cheaper on eBay. You just have to dig to find them.

Supply and demand. It's not that people dont want to sell their old stuff for money, but quite often they died of old age.

Yeah it's insane dude I wanted to do a 1366 build and I would if I could find a non oem board for $30 - but no CPU prices are significantly dropped but mobo prices are through the roooooooof

Yeah but they dont make old 1st gen I7s anymore or Xeons anymore from that time and they are so much cheaper

eBay has been decent so far. Most people selling boards like that usually throw in extra stuff to make it a better combo. Most throw in a CPU and cooler, but it's better priced with the combo set.

I've seen dual socket ones go under $40 without CPU memory or anything, but the thing is you need usually a special case for it. The single socket ones I find are OEM and have IO placements and such for a proprietary case

after the mobo manufacturers stop making them, they get less and less common due to breakage, common faults are: snapping, short circuit, blown capacitors and killed chipsets

Motherboards typically hold their value better than CPUs.

Most of the 2nd hand parts on eBay come from computer recyclers buying 1000+ old office computers that have Intel i3/i5/i7 CPUs in them and crappy OEM motherboards. There's just many more OEM machines out there than custom builts. An i7 3770 in a Dell is the same as an i7 3770 in a custom gaming PC. This means when they part out the office/school desktops the CPUs become really cheap because it's easy to find lots of them. The market also gets flooded with the crappy OEM motherboards that no-one wants and typically aren't worth much, especially the non-standard ones... With the exception of if you are repairing the same model of OEM system and want to replace a faulty motherboard.

In comparison, there's just not as many custom built PCs with decent motherboards being torn down and parted out. This means that the few decent motherboards that do end up on sites like eBay are priced much higher because there is less supply of them and they're harder to find.

Yeah tho a $60 board from then going $200 now makes no sense because a Xeon from then that would have been atleast $500 goes for $30 now ...

Look up "x58 motherboard" on eBay and you can narrow down what you're hunting for. Personally I wouldn't go with Dual Socket, but for me I'm gearing towards a gaming aspect.

Speaking of that, when it comes to anything that's top tier from ASUS like the old Rampage boards, it usually isn't worth it. Costs an arm and leg

yeah its kinda silly, i bought a new asrock h81m-g for £60 on amazon and 2 weeks later all the socket 1150 mobos were unavailable, i got lucky but i believe that it is very hard for some people

I don't know what is in your country, but in PL LGA775 is easy to find very cheap, even with processor. For example - P5Q SE2 + Q6600 someone sells for about 26$ (see here - prices divide by 3.75 for dollars - ASUS P5Q as example). But 1150 are more expensive.

Here's a great dual Xeon 1366 board on the cheap! Works great in Windows 10 and OSX.

Two of those $20 6 core xeons wouldn't be too bad for me. It'd certainly be an upgrade from a Phenom II X4 from 2008

Definitely will! Pair it with a GTX 1060 and you'll have a soild gaming experience

X79 boards are expensive AF. Always have been. AliExpress has a Chinese $130 board but in my opinion thats too much for a questionable quality board without warranty.

Well the reason I'd be using $40 of CPU is budget. Just the other night I ordered a R7 250 for $26 and that'll go into my project PC along with a 500 GB I ordered for $13. Already I have a SFF case, I3 2120, 4 GB RAM and the motherboard but that's all OEM. The next part that I am saving up for is a logysis case I found for $35/$40 that comes with a 480w PSU. If the mobo and CPU dont work which I kinda doubt they will at this point (2 years sitting around being tinkered with to run) I want a backup plan. The case is Micro ATX so I wanted a high end 775 as my back up.

It is especially for x58 motherboards that are from China.
