Looking  at the board specs for the retro pc I plan on building I think this was a good move it supports up to 2 gb of ddr/ddr2  and I'm not locked with proprietary parts.

I normally don't spend much on my main computer for all intents an purposes it's been complete for a few years however the cpu is aging and I feel it's time to upgrade most of the components

When it comes to spending I'm pretty good EXCEPT when it comes to computer parts..

Today  I got a power supply for my old Dell dimension  4550  and it didn't fit so I decided I  would build a retro computer

Mind you I just spent less them a grand on a laptop.

I think I need help

Who else has a pc spending problem?

I did until I started working for LTT, then it was SUPER bad for like 6 months but now I have an i7-5960X and a GTX 1080 so my PC is considerably more powerful than I require and I haven't bought a part for close to a year.

More so at the point where it'll cost too much to have a noticeable performance improvement, like there is no way I'm shelling out the cash for a 2080Ti

Yeah. I felt that way with X79. Only moved because I needed a bunch of NVMe drives. Still waiting for Nvidia to come out and say the pricing was an elaborate joke...

yeah I just bought a 1070ti because my  970 did not perform well at 1440p on current modern  games, and the improvement was quite significant, however I don't see any justification on upgrading to a 2080 its just too expensive.

The racecar costs $500 every time I look at it, and double that per event. It always needs something between maintenance, modification, and general F-you cantankerousness.

PCs are cheap in comparison. Hell, heroin would be cheaper.

It's shocking how much cheaper a lot of stuff is than a PC hobby.

I just recently (2 weeks) got into the world of custom keyboards. I've already spent <$300, part of that are $150 keycaps that won't even arrive until June 2019 at the latest; it's a Massdrop item in case you are wondering why it's going to take so long.
