Hello everyone, I plan to build a new system for gaming with an 8700K (if the price ever goes back down), and I plan to overclock a little bit (not sure how much yet, never done CPU overclocking before). My first choice for cooler was the CRYORIG H7, but then I thought a liquid cooler like the NZXT - Kraken X62 would look a little better in the case. How much would my room temperature effect my choice of cooler? Does it matter if its hot in my room for the liquid cooler? It's usually roughly 20-25 Celsius in my room at all times, little cooler during the summer as I'm from the UK so it doesn't get too hot around summer time.

1C increase in room temp = 1C increase in component temp

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

The main difference between liquid and air cooling is how fast the heat is transferred away from the CPU. Also, with liquid cooling, the heat is usually dumped directly out the case, which is better than an air cooler which dumps the air back into the case, though it’s usually quickly exhausted out of the case. However, liquid cooling can be louder, and is usually more expensive. So do with that what you will.

With an 8700k though, I’d recommend a delid and a decent air cooler, considering the great job Intel did in sealing the CPU and IHS together.

Just don't cheap out on cooler if you pick air. Those are known hot chips, and you need to fiddle with settings if you plan to use budget cooler. For OC, 140mm tower is minimum.

The room temperature wouldn't make a difference in cooler selection asides from getting something more or less powerful. What case and ram are you using and what are you looking for in a cooler besides performance?
