Have you tried testing your hard drive to make sure it is not the cause? Run HDD Tune and make sure smart is not failing and do a benchmark on the drive. The other issue can be gaming mode enabled in windows. Alternatively it could be an issue with Windows itself. I have had plenty of updates cause a lot of issues.

Also, what are your temps during gaming on your CPU and GPU? Do the issues only occur in one game or all of them? What games are the issues occurring in?

Be sure to @Pickles von Brine if you want me to see your reply!

well tbh i did this " Remove Bloatware (copy this into Powershell to remove all apps, else check link- Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage"

i did that to git rid of the game mode//xbox stuff but i still have fps stuttering or smoothing going on but for the temps gpu i git like 57c and for my cpu 50c also i mostly play r6 MY LOVE and i die foe this but *fortnite* @_@ lol some games are ezer to run not too much stuttering but it\s still there tho [games are being ran off anew ssd from WD:}]

I don't think this matters but I'm pretty sure that your gtx 1060 is wayyy too weak for the i7-8700. Depends on the game but most of the time I think you're running a pretty large bottleneck by having a powerful CPU and a low-ish end GPU. As I type this, I think this could be an issue. Has it been stuttering from the start? If so than the only way I can think of to fix it is to upgrade to a better gpu

That is not the issue at hand. A video card cannot be too weak for a processor.

It could just be an issue within Windows. The only problem is how far down the rabbit hole do you wanna go? Personally, the next best thing to do is backup everything, wipe the drive and reinstall windows and reinstall everything. It is a giant pain but this way you can completely rule out software.

yeah the gpu is the bottleneck in this case but the 1060 is still a good card. just because it's a bottleneck dosent mean the games will run worse. also he said that they were fine before the update so that rules this out.

im pretty sure a video card can be too weak for a gpu, I know that first hand since I have that issue. Theres no point in me saying bottlenecking does or doesn't exist though lets worry about helping mrghost

a 1070ti is pretty expensive, so if youre spending that much at that point then you mine as well buy a 1080. If you have the money, then buy a 1080ti and it'll last you longer. A 1070ti, 1080, and 1080ti should all be ok for 1440p gaming but a 1080 and 1080ti will easily be better than a 1070ti

I mean the 1070ti and the 1080 are pretty close but if you can find the 1070ti for cheaper, then you should get that. if your just doing 1440p 60hz, depending on the game, your 1060 might actually be fine or a 1070 could be okay too.

You are very right, for me it would depend on which one is a better deal since I'm looking at used 1070s/1070ti right now

I still don't understand why people focus so darn much on bottlenecking. I am over here running an Intel 3770k @ 4.5Ghz, 16GB of ram, 1TB SSD and a 1070 with no issues on a 1080p 144hz monitor. I know my system is more than plenty for even 1440p. Stop focusing on bottlenecks and focus on what gives you overall best performance.  Once you start getting to 1440p to 4k you become GPU bound. At that point you use the biggest, baddest and fast GPU you can either afford or rationalize to install and just use it. As long as you are using a decent i5 or i7 on such a system that is at least competently clocked (3.8-4.2GHz) you got plenty of grunt.

Even at 1080p an i5 or a comparable ryzen with a GTX 1060 will run games easily at 60FPS or more. You build for the resolutions and games you plan on playing and go from there.

/rant

Anyways, if you are going for a 1440, a GTX 1070 or 1080 will be fine. Most games will be able to play at least 60FPS or higher (if you have a proper refresh rate to support higher FPS). However some games are hogs or are hard to run like Monster Hunter World. I average 80FPS with my setup. The game is just hard to run.

even older gen intel chips were beasts. your 3770k still packs a punch in today's games especially in 1080p a 1070 wont bottleneck it, maybe a 1080 or 1080ti will though.

The only card I think my chip could may not be able to keep up with would be something like a GTX 1080 ti or a GTX 2xxx series.

Actually I think I would start seeing a bottleneck if I went to a GTX 2080 and even then barely. Not like what I saw with a Q6600 and an HD6950.

you have a gpu bottleneck you might need to go to  a gtx 1060 6gb or gtx 1070.
