1440p vs 1080p ulrawide

i don't care about vesa, i have Rx 580 8GB, framerate doesn't matter to me unless its under 50fps. I care about the gaming experience.

 

the C27H711 has 75hz as well with free sync enabled

graphics card? if you have anything under a 1070 i wouldnt go 1440p. I would go for high refresh 1080p (mabye ultrawide)

well the 34UM69-B can be the other choice, i was thinking it would be to big for 2560x1080

don't care about refresh rate, i have Rx580 8GB (as mentioned above if you would read). I already have a 144hz 24" 1080p monitor. I can tweak setting for almost every game achieve consistent 60-75fps and i will have freesync

 

nvidia is scum ($250-350 for Gsync)

no, i want to have a main monitor for gaming, maybe switch now and then but not two at once

I like higher pixel density. Ultrawide's aren't worth it. Your field of view will usually focus on a certain part of the screen instead of the whole.

There is a big visual jump going from 1080 to 1440. Even the jump from 1440 to 4k is not as impressive. 

 

I use a 34" 3440 X 1440 WS monitor & sometimes test at 1080 WS.  I think " 34" is too big for a 1080 WS monitor. A 29" should be better.

 

Since you are not a high fps fan you should think about getting a 4k monitor. I own 3 4k monitors. they all do 1440 very well. In my living room there is a ASUS 28" 4k monitor in between 2 ASUS 27" 1440 monitors. When the 4k monitor is set to 1440 the image quality is the same as the 1440 monitors.

 

The great thing about 4k monitors is that you can revisit your old a games at 4k & run you new ones at 1440. The down side to 4k is that you will want to upgrade your computer even more.

For gaming I'd probably go with the ultrawide. 29" ultrawide is as tall as 23" 16:9 monitor so 1080p is just fine.

For anything else I'd go with the 1440p.

depends on the game though, my friend can run gta v at low settings 1440p at 50-60 fps with a 750ti, he's upgrading to a 1080ti soon because he bought a 165hz monitor but it's not a horrible experience, gaming with 1060 or lower at 1440p
