The 15 inch model has.

They advertised acer swift 3 as having 12 hours of battery life tho

Expect 8 hrs. Tip: Cut down 25-30% of the advertised battery life to obtain real world battery life (not under medium/heavy load)

So, I need a laptop for auditing software (acl, excel). I will also be gaming on this thing. Oh, and I will bring this laptop to my auditing classes. My budget is around 10.000.000 IDR or 650 USD. I've looked around and find these two laptop:

Acer e5 476g

https://m.tokopedia.com/acerid/acer-aspire-e14-high-performance-e5-476g-core-i5-8250u-mx150-w10?lt=%2Fshoppage+-+product+7+-+product+-+all

Acer swift 3

https://m.tokopedia.com/acerid/acer-swift-3-acer-day-sf314-54g-core-i5-4gb-1tb-mx150-w10?lt=%2Fshoppage+-+product+8+-+product+-+all

The swift 3 costs 250.000 IDR more, but lighter, thinner and looks more premium. The rest of the budget will be spent on another 4GB stick of ram and 256GB m.2 ssd.

Which one is better, and if you have better suggestion please tell me.

From the looks of it, the top Acer has fully upgradeable RAM while the bottom one has 4GB on-board, with potential for upgrades in that same area, too.

I'd get the top one, personally.

I don't think I need more than 8 gigs tho. So I assume 4+4 will be enough(?). Anyway thanks for your input.

There are a lot actually. But they either came with no dgpu or mx130 which is quite a downgrade(?) As for ryzen laptop, only this one:

Lenovo Ideapad 330-4SID/4RID/4TID 9.650.000 IDR
AMD Ryzen 7 2700U, RAM 8GB, HDD 1TB, 15.6" HD, AMD Radeon 540 2GB, DVDRW, Win 10

Edit I found these too:

Acer Aspire 3 (A315) Win 10 7.575.000 IDR
AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, RAM 8GB, HDD 1TB, Non DVD, AMD Radeon RX VEGA 8, Camera, 15.6" HD LED, Win 10

Asus X505ZA-BR501T 8.025.000 ID
AMD Ryzen R5-2500U, RAM 8GB, HDD 1TB, 15.6", AMD Radeon RX Vega 8, No DVD, Win 10 Home

HP 14-CM0075AU/CM0076AU/CM0077AU/CM0078AU 7.800.000 IDR

AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, RAM 4GB, HDD 1TB, 14" HD, UMA Graphics, No DVDRW, Win 10 Home

I heard it gets hot while gaming. There is also weird sound like the fan blade touches a part of the laptop (coil whine) according to some people. Is it okay?

From what I know the cooling is pretty standard for Ultrabooks/regular laptops. So cooling performance should be OK, not the best but not the worst

This is QC issue which can happen in every model

So should be fine for gaming on low settings? Are there any issues that I should aware of regarding i5 8250u and mx 150? Is mx 150 on this laptop the full variant or the slower one?

1. Should be fine

2. Optimus shutter issue (can Google for that), KBL-R runs hot (needs undervolting)

3. Should be the 25W one, however it's a downclocked a bit in the new Swift 3

Will undervolting solve the overheating problem? Or do I need to change the thermal paste out of the box?

So I saw your "tier" list of laptops. Why did acer swift 3 sf314 54g, the one that you recommend got placed on the "good" tier instead of "top" ?

It uses entry level IPS. Also, build quality is good, but not 'excellent'. Still a good budget model

Ah okay. Do you perefer nvme or sata ssd for this kind of laptop? Does nvme ssd going to be bottlenecked by the cpu? If not, will it interfere with pcle bandwith or something?

Doesn't matter really. Normal users won't notice a difference.

What do you mean by bottlenecked by CPU? PCIe bandwidth depends on motherboard implementation and chipset

Should I get a cooling pad or something to help the thermals?

Cooling pad will help but not much. Better do undervolt+repaste
