Inexpensive light gaming rig

Hey my friend is getting into PC gaming via mine craft. He plays it on a ancient PC and only gets around 20 fps. He wants to be able to play light games at a comfortable frame rate while keeping to very cheap. He only wants to spend around 400ish including windows  any suggestions on parts or an entire config.

But then he will have to use an nvidia GPU, and a 400$ rig with nvidia won't be to great. Not saying they are bad GPUs but at that price point they aren't to great

Are you in the UK? You might want to change the sites settings to use your areas pricing.
Not bad though, though I don't know how well it'll bench for games.

I'd go with dual channel RAM, and a 64bit OS.

This ram is cheaper than dual kit 8gb ram atm.
