So, guys - I need help. My coworker asked me if I could help her husband with choosing components for a gaming PC. The problem is, I have been given a budget way below my comfort zone. I don't want to sound like a snob or anything because I genuinely need help but the last time I have build a PC with that kind of budget, it was like 10 years ago. Keep in mind that the monitor and OS and peripherals need to be included.

It is supposed to be a gaming PC for "simulator games", "Overwatch" some strategy games and games like Europa Universalis but he said he'd like to dip a bit into some more demanding titles (he mentioned having "second Tomb Raider" and wanting to play it - I assume he means Rise of the Tomb Raider and not Tomb Raider 2 xD). Anyway, since the guy isn't too experienced with PC building and starts literally from scratch, I was wondering what to tell him.

This is what I have come up with:

I'd be grateful for any feedback, especially with regards to motherboard and monitor.

Look into buying the windows key from Kinguin for about 30$ and save that 90$ or use it to get more powerfull PSU for future proofing as 450W is fine for a 1060 however a bigger GPU might stress it to much. or a SSD upgrade and get a 250+GB SSD. other then that it looks fine. Good luck with it :D

Well you can save $100 if you just dont buy windows immediately.

The Ripjaws 4 are the 2015 DDR4 kits that came out with Skylake. I dont know how compatible they are with Ryzen, even with the expanded capabilities with the 2000 series...

The seagate 2tb HDD is available for $57, which is a significantly better value and quality drive than the toshiba one picked.

Personally I would also shell out for a 240gb SSD, but 120gb is arguably good enough.

Changed out the case and added a CPU cooler because the R5 2600 comes with the stealth cooler (same as on the R3 2200) which isnt great for overclocking (plus looks better)

I was going to suggest the Kinguin key as well. Buying win10 for msrp is umm, well it sucks lol.

I agree with the larger SSD, he will thank you later.

Monitor is fine honestly, the card won't be pushing out anything higher or demanding so it's a great fit for it. Go ahead and use that saved money to go from a 1tb to a 2tb. Seagate's barracuda is 2tb for around $60.
