2500k w/ 1080 @ 3440X1440

Mr.Sir

i have a 2500k and was wondering if I could buy a used 1080 for 350 and a 3440x1440 for around 600 and get away with barely any bottleneck instead of have to buy a new cpu combo with a lesser display and gpu.

An i3-8100 will beat a 2500K in almost every situation, even when the 2500K is OC'd.

IMO, get a 1070 (it's not a whole lot slower than a 1080) and spend the rest on either a Sandy Bridge i7 or a Coffee Lake CPU (preferrably, an i3 or better) with accompanying motherboard.

Hope this helps!

Yeah you can. If you see CPU bottleneck, crank up the graphics settings.

However, I'm not sure if AAA games will run much more than 60fps.

This works at 1080p, sadly not 3440x1440 when there are a lot more pixels for the GPU to render, but not more work for the CPU.

what games are you going to be playing this is a good enough combo for alot of games  still the 2500k is still a strong CPU when overclocking it and for higher resolution gaming a newer CPU is not important anymore if your good with 60-70 frames it should work really well at a higher detail level then when you get the time/money a motherboard and ram upgrade will fill in the FPS.

some games will be barely playable even if u have it oc'd to 4.4, kingdom come, monster hunter world, ACO, shadow of war, i'm talking about like 30-40fps due to a cpu bottleneck, iono about other games, but i specifically picked these games and tried to run it on the 2500k

at that point i would lower settings to reasonable, and not something stupid like ultra, if its still demanding on the CPU I probably wouldn't play those type of games

to settle this this is a video of crisis 3 running on this spec system at 60+ is this a acceptable frame rate and quality for your game play?

settings wouldn't matter in those games, thats just an example of games the 2500k wouldn't run at 60fps, but stuff like bf5/sotr SHOULD be fine.

yes thats outstanding performance compared to my gtx 650ti at 40 fps 1080p. especially at "3440X1440p" it would look amazing

for real thats a nice playable frame rate. then on the next refresh cycle you get a CPU motherboard and ram and and go for more frames per second if you think you need it. but if you can squeeze for the 1080ti over the 1080 I would just to have the best GPU from the Pasquale family since you are close price wise anyway you wont get less frames from having the better GPU for future games.

monitors are one of the most important parts of a computer and with a bad monitor the best system in the world is still only average is the whole thing with that no one thinks about the monitor when building a computer its the overlooked things good response and a high refresh rate are a must always look to the next upgrade you are planning when buying parts so you don't have to buy something again when its less than ideal later.

I like the acer myself out of them the color space is wide and the G toG is fast on it so its should look sweet at video and fast games.

that's the I really liked. so that paired with lets say an asus 1080ti/ 2500k would be great for gaming?

when it comes to monitors there's a few things to consider

panel, usually 8 or 10 bit these days, also affects viewing angles , only looks slightly better if it doesn't have hdr.

HDR10 ready, everything supported just looks better with more colors displayed, mostly only used for selected games and netflix

LUT, not mentioned on most monitors, but it goes from 6 to 14bit, higher it goes the more colors the monitor can select from.

refresh rate, either 60 or 144 mainstream these days.

color accuracy

I would look at these feature and let that decide the resolution, but be warned, this is a can of worms that burns more money but everything will be connected to that monitor, so whether or not it's worth the money is up to you. I see WAY too many enthusiasts setups with shitty monitors.

this is how I ended up with a 27" 1080p 75Hz curved and a 27" 4k on a dual arm lol I wanted to game and do everything else and this was the best compromise for me if I did it again I would have sprung for the 144 htz version of the curved but I didn't see it at the time and my rig docent go past 70s anyway if it does I turn up the AA or something lol.
