So my new PC just arrived and I have been playing a few games with it to see how it performs. It has been running fine, however I'm a bit worried about the temperatures.

Average idle temperature: 45-55 degrees celsius

Average load/gaming temperature: 60-75 degrees celsius

The idle temperatures fluctuate a lot, depending on background processes using the CPU.

My cooler is a Cryorig H7, and my case is a NZXT H700.

Are these temperatures okay? I heard this CPU generally runs quite hot, but I don't want to be running temperatures that are bad for the CPU.

Thanks in advance.

What is your ambient temperature? What's the fan configuration inside the case? In a relatively hot room, these temps would be somewhat normal. If that 75c is a prime95 run, then it's rather decent. Also, which GPU (specific model)?

MCE is likely on, turn it off in the bios, load temps look fine though, and if that doesn't fix it and  voltages are set to auto and you are worried about that, changing it to 1.2v might also fix the problem

Fans and speeds? Prebuilt?

Load seems fine.

Idle is WAAAAYYY to high. Should be closer to 30C.

What is your ambient temp? Are you sure that is completely idle?

The idle temperatures that I stated above were innacurate, I had quite a few programs open which were using the CPU. Here are my idle temperatures and other related information:

Does this look okay?

As for my load temperatures, I am yet to test that properly using a stress testing program, the above temperatures were checked during gaming.

My fan layout is 3 intake fans at the front, and 1 exhaust fan at the back.

Those temps look fine to me. Very similar to my own, although I'm pretty overclocked on a liquid cooler so its not nearly the same cooling setup.

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

So I was monitoring my temperatures while playing Call of Duty 4 Beta, and these were my temperatures. To me this is really worrying, especially when it's getting up to 90 or close to that. I don't know what to do, this computer is brand new and was put together by an experienced PC company, so I doubt the cooler was installed incorrectly or anything.

After checking my BIOS settings, some related settings I have look a bit questionable.

ASUS MultiCore Enhancement - Auto

CPU Core/Cache Voltage - Auto (Showing 1.376V)

CPU VCCIO Voltage - Auto (Showing 1.232V)

CPU System Agent Voltage (Showing 1.240V)

CPU Standby Voltage (Showing 1.007V)

So I ended up lowering my CPU Core voltage to 1.2V, as I did some extensive research on this issue and a lot of people suggested voltage as a main cause.

So far, I have noticed lower temperatures. My idle temps are now around 35-45 degrees. While gaming, which isn't full load, I get around 60-65 degrees. When doing a stress test using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, my load temps maxed at around 80-85.

I am unsure why my BIOS automatically set the CPU Core voltage to close to 1.4V. It may be due to the fact I'm using a motherboard which is made for overclocking (ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming) while I have a locked CPU.

If anyone thinks that this new voltage is either too low or too high, please let me know. I am unsure what to use exactly.

Good to hear!

A full load temperature of 85 degrees is nothing to be extremely scared of, since that is, after all, FULL LOAD, which I doubt you will be putting on your system constantly.

And yes, the issue was in fact WAY too high of a voltage. If you're concerned about system stability, try putting under a reputable CPU stress test for at most an hour (if you feel lucky, go overnight), and see if it crashes. If it does, increase the voltage by a tiny amount. If it doesn't, congratulations, your system is cooler than before, and still stable!

A CPU Vcore should not be set to 1.376V on auto. What terrible motherboard is this? I do not want to criticize your build but I would advise against anyone buying this since those are the most terribly auto settings i have ever seen.
