Look to your future self and work towards what you want to become. Think about your goals in life. Think about what you wanted from high school. Tell yourself every day that you can do it.

I've been through high school and just recently left, the way to get through it is to think about what you want to become and be able to go through a day of school satisfied with your work. :)

Good luck in your freshmen year! :D

try not to just sit and study for many hours, slip in a few breaks every now and then. if you feel really unmotivated, just remember that it's either you get that diploma or start work at burger king.

I'm also in high school but I'm a junior (probably the hardest year you will go through). I have the same problem as you and it makes my entire life super stressful. The biggest tips I can give you go to a quiet place and JUST SIT DOWN WITH YOUR HOMEWORK OUT. Music also helps. Eliminate all your distractions and also meter out your homework so you don't have to burn the midnight oil.

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

Put the god damn effort in or you will get a low paying job where your boss exploits you. I have done it and it sucks. I can tell you from experience

100% agree with this. To add on to this, Put your phone away. Texting and browsing facebook/instagram/reddit are great ways to not get anything done. If you instinctively reach for your phone and open those apps, it would be a good idea to delete them from your phone. You don't need to be connected and in the know 24/7. Also, if you don't need your laptop/computer to do your work, don't be on it or near it when you're working. They will only serve as a distraction in the end with again, browsing on social media. If you need to, listen to music. It can really help, but it can also be a distraction too. Sometimes I work better with music, sometimes I work better without it. Just use your discretion.

If you can work at your desk and be productive where your computer and stuff is, great. If not, go into your kitchen or dining room where you have a good place to spread out your stuff, sit down, and just concentrate on the task at hand and that gets better and better as you become more disciplined.

In regards to how you should handle the workload, try to do it throughout the day while you're at school if you have free time. Obviously, you can hang out with friends and stuff but if your workload is heavier than usual, it'll definitely help to do as much as possible and future you will thank past you for giving yourself some time to relax.

OH also, make to do lists. Keep a little notebook or planner where you actively write down things that you need to do everyday. If you know what you need to do for the week ahead, take some time, say 30 minutes, on a saturday or sunday night make to do lists for the week day-by-day. Do the tasks that you have written down for yourself to do and if you finish early and feel like you can start on the next day's stuff, start on some of those too so you stay organized and dont fall behind.

Honestly, these are some things that I learned once I got into college and started to get into really heavy workloads where being organized and disciplined about work and homework pretty necessary and I wish I knew these things earlier so I could have not just done better in high school, but started off much better in college. One of the hardest things to adopt was good study and homework habits, especially in an environment where you live and work with your friends and all you want to do is hang out and ignore your responsibilities.

First you must understand you have 2 mind frames. 1 that wants you to do what you want, and the other that needs you to do what you need to do. You are your greatest ally and your greatest foe... Pace yourself, you are young and you will make mistakes. Mistakes are sometimes necessary and sometimes painful, however learning from these mistakes is more powerful than any pain you've suffered through. Structure is a necessity... Pace yourself in creating a structured plan to move forward. Download the app "life rpg" to your phone put in and complete small tasks... as you grow in EXP let your tasks grow in difficulty. Create a life map, place it on your door and check off all the things you have done while yearning for what is to be done. Do not lose sight of your goals for motivation is easy to forget and hard to remember...   Abraham Lincoln, Albert Einstein, SupremeGOAT.... There is much potential in one mortal life... you must reveal yours... NOW STEEL YOURSELF AND GO FORTH WITHOUT FALTER! I WILL BE WITH YOU IN SPIRIT! WHISPER THESE WORDS IN YOUR HEART BEFORE YOU STRIKE! "In my father's name" and I WILL BE THERE!

Bolivia.

Associative learning can make listening to music or tv in the background counterproductive to studying if you want to remember what you studied later.

The memory is laid down in your brain in association with the music and you would probs find it much easier to recall the info if the same song was playing during the test. Thats usually not allowed though.

You possess youth, which is the most valuable commodity you will ever have. Dont stress and overthink school and take most of what your teachers say with a truckload of salt.

Dont fall for BS from teachers or peers who pretend to know everything and always seek the truth for yourself. If it doesnt make sense logically, and cannot be proven factually, its probs BS. If someone says "just trust me" or "im an adult i know better" and cant give you a real reason, then ignore their empty words.

The real motivating factors to go through the motions of school are simple. Want a scholarship? To get admission to a good university(if those even exist anymore)? Then you need good grades. Its really that simple and has been since the whole "education" system has existed in its current form.

In the mean time, while you go through the motions of school, which is mostly BS, try to find something you are truly passionate about. Only doing something you truly find worth your time will bring you true satisfaction that lasts.

Have you tried ridilyn? Cocaine?

How about getting addicted to Xbox and having parents that won’t let you play until you finish your work?

The latter is how I got through HS with decent grades. (Inb4 you check that I got 0 on all my hw and just did really well on tests.)

Realize that high school is meaningless and they don't teach you anything applicable. I recommend graduating so you can put it on a resume (they'll think you're braindead otherwise), but other than that, it's useless.

High school on your resume is akin to having finish elemtary school on your resume nowadays.

Hopefully you are joking about Ritalin* and cocaine. Damaging his dopaminergic system at a young age is a terrible piece of advice.

Who’s joking?

Kek

of course I am. It probably works but is a horrible idea. They give that to kids at 5&6 in some regions of the USA. My horrible first grade teacher told my mom I should take it.

The only drugs you should do are fun times and alcohol because there’s a time & place for everything and it’s called college.

My 5th grade teacher said that about keeping our workbooks at the end of the schoo year lol.

Far too many kids are turned into drugged up zombies with ADHD meds or antidepressants that make them suicidal/homicidal, in order to make them fit into this morally bankrupt society and become good little wage slave drones.

I know some do it to themselves and i just wanted to be sure that no one, especially the OP, mistook your joke for serious advice... because there really are kids who do coke and Ritalin to "help" with school. Ive witnessed the destruction it brings myself.

  • 3 weeks later...

Australian Translator

High school = Year 7 - 12

How to survive High school as a little kid

* Try, it's not that hard to get good grades like a B or A in year 7

* Join some sort of lunch-time club

* Find out what subject you are interested in. Will be useful for choosing subjects.

* Don't be the cool kid (the one person that tries to be cool)

* Choose the right friendship group, try to avoid those groups that try to acts cool (I mean, it's not bad to join them but bad stuff usually happens in them... according to my experiences).

After year 7, you get used to high school.

Year 8 is like year 7 but slightly harder (Could be way harder if living in a private school)

Once you reach year 12, you should be able to handle it since the school have been training you up for that moment.

In year 12, you're gonna a BIG test (It matters... alot ). Don't know what you call it over there in the UK but here in AUS, we call it VCE.

Good luck!
