Hi. So I've recently bought a new PC and wanted a 144hz display to go with it. I found a 24' 144hz VA display, and all the features seem great other than the 6ms response time. I saw the sticky post that stated ghosting is negligible for modern ips panels, and that response times are inaccurate and cherry picked by the manufacturer. I wonder if that's true for a 6ms VA as well, and if I'll notice ghosting on it? Thanks

Advertised response times can sometimes be inaccurate, yes. The best IPS panels will only have 4ms response times, so I would say that 6ms is still pretty good. I have gamed on 4-6ms IPS panels for the last couple years, recently switching to a 1ms TN panel. I couldn't tell a difference.

well, a blink takes about 200-400ms (according to google) so i wouldn't worry about the difference between 1ms or 6ms. i can't tell the difference in response time between my 2 monitors (one is 1ms and the other 6ms)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you're talking about input lag and not response times?

In short: I wouldn't worry about it. Buy what you want, as long as it is 6ms or under. Once you start getting to 8ms+ then you can start to notice a difference. But that's not this, so if it's a good price, I would say go for it.

The VA panels have ghosting, due to the nature of VA. If you want no ghosting then there are IPS and TN, but they have their own problems.

On modern VA panels the ghosting is only really noticable in extreme situations(from very dark to very bright), so i wouldnt worry about it.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

You can always try to play with the Overdrive option in the OSD menu on the monitor and try to lower the response times.

But usually, the advertised response time is just GTG and the actual response time is much higher anyway.

I wouldnt really bother too much about it unless you're hyper sensitive to these things.

it is true.

Manufactuers dont have an agreed upon standardised method of measuring pixel response. Some use G2G, which could be a 80% reading or a 100% reading, or some other %. others use different colors alltogether, but they never tell you which in detail.

You need to find a reveiwer who specificly tests Pixel Reponse times across multiple manufactuers displays, that way you can compare.

For exampel BlurBusters, TFTCentral, and even rtings has some monitor reviews goign now, thoug hthey mainly deal wiht TV's.

That depends on what you're playing with the monitor.

If you are playing CS:GO, CoD and any other fast FPS where one ms of reaction-time can decide over a kill or not... then you need a TN-Panel with fast reaction-times.

If you are playing mostly slower games like RPG, MMOs, 3rd-Person-Shooters, etc. then you can choose a slower VA-Panel.

I think you're confusing input lag with response time as well

The monitor I'm looking at is from a local brand, so I doubt many sites will have reviews or tests of them unfortunately
