  1. 1. 1080Ti or 2080?

    • Get the GTX 1080Ti
      6
    • Wait for the RTX 2080
      8
    • Wait for RTX to launch and for 1080Ti prices to drop even further

Currently, Newegg is running a promotional price for the ROG Strix 1080Ti  which comes in at 719.99 USD. Would it be a better idea to wait to buy the 869.99 USD 2080 Strix or to grab the 1080Ti? Looking at PcPartPicker, prices have been decreasing on the 1080Ti and the 2080, while being leaked to be around 6% faster in certain benchmarks, has an over 50% increase in price compared to the 1080 without a 50+ percentage point improvement. I understand that the increase in price is for early adoption of Raytracing and Tensor cores on the Turing die. I also understand that there are cheaper 1080Tis that perform just as well. I have no current GPU except for the UHD 630 Intel iGPU.

So what should I do?

I would recommend waiting until actual performance data for the RTX cards is available, until this point people can only guess.

GTX prices will likely drop futher once RTX is released.

I bought a Gaming X 1080ti last week for $714.00. I am keeping it in the plastic until the 2080 benchmark embargo drops which is Thursday the 14th. If the 2080 is much faster I will return the 1080ti and pre-order a 2080.

I would buy the strix gtx 1080ti and just not open it until the benchmarks come out. You have 30 days at newegg or B&H as long as you don't remove the plastic cellophane.

The return policy on this card has a replacement only instead of a refund/replacement policy, which blocks the ability to return the card right after the RTX embargo.

Whats even more unfortunate is that the card is now sold out.

GTX 1080Ti easy will be better price/performance card. What a point of RTX 2080 if it's noticeably more expensive and can't handle raytracing at 1440p or 4k.

Two weeks ago I bought at EVGA 1080 ti sc Black for $649 on Newegg. Last week it went up to $779. This week it is at $714.

If you need a card right now get it, but keep in mind that it may be $650 next week.

It is going to take time for raytrace games to come out & I think the only card that may be able to do it at 1440 will be the 2080 ti. If it can't there is no point in me getting one. My 3440X1440 & 4k monitor don't do 1080 very well & I have no desire to buy one. I will need to see some benchmarks before I spend that kind on money.

Of all the Nvidia cards I have owned the GTX 1080 ti has been the most stable. Both my GTX 1080s have had issues with other hardware on my systems. My last super stable card was the GTX 680 4gb so it has been a long time.

You can survive for 11 more days.

After they are out, prices are known, and Tests are out, consider what to do.
