Is Athlon 64 LE-1620 box cooler good enough for Athlon 64 X2

Cake_Seller

Hi guys,

I have a computer based on Biostar MCP6P-M2 Ver. 6.0 motherboard with Athlon 64 LE-1620 CPU. I'm thinking about upgrading CPU with something like Athlon X2 7750 (which costs like $3 on eBay) which should give around twice boost in terms of CPU performance. Motherboard seems to support Athlon X2 but I wonder if box cooler which comes with Athlon 64 LE-1620 (which has 45W TDP) will handle diffusing heat from 95W TDP Athlon X2 7750. I may consider undervolting and underclocking it, of course if it will not affect performance drastically. WDYT?

Here is how box cooler looks like

That CPU cooler is intended for 45W CPU and you want to use it with a 95W CPU. I wouldn't recommend it. I feel like this is one of those cases where being cheap isn't worth the extra hassle it will give you.

With only $3 towards the CPU, I feel like you could afford a better cooler. Don't the old wraith coolers fit on those sockets?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Theoretically, any cooler that uses that retention mechanism would fit. I was able to fit the stock cooler from my A6-5400K onto my Athlon 64 rig without trouble.
