Gameboy advance link cable missing a pin?

I have the madcatz gameboy advance link/gamecube connection cable, and it seems as though the first pin is missing from the top row(top being the side with the key). Is this normal, or is it broken. I hypothesize it is for the gamecube connectivity, as it is present on the bulky connector(the one that can either be for gamecube or gameboy linking).
