Windows 8 is not crap on a desktop. You just have to do a little bit of work to get rid of it's annoying features. After that, it's just windows 7, but better.

Linux because there are so many distros it's nearly impossible to say you hate linux as a whole

also forgot to say it's the most optimized OS, many distros (NOT UBUNTU) are godly fast

win 8. Ever since i got win 8 and startisback it was so much better. Boots straight to desktop very fast and just feels like a cleaner version of windows 7, i seriously forget the metro shit is ever there. My only gripe with win 8 is that it natively does not play dvd's but that can be fixed with vlc player.

Win7 is my first choice only because i don't like using Win8 with a touch pad. (got win8 upgrade free with my laptop)
i use Win 8 on my desktop and have no trouble using it with keyboard and mouse.

if i didn't need a Windows OS for my games then i would probably use a Linux OS  :)

Mac os is solid. i rarely have problems, but its a shame there are not many games/programs, and you cant solve everything by compatibility mode or run as admin.

I really like Windows 8 (the Halo: Spartan Assault and Jetpack Joyride are the two things that are a big win for me), Windows 7 is pretty good, and I like different kinds of Linux. Right now I like Elementary OS the most out of all of the distros, and I'm gonna try Zorin OS soon, I hope.

I like Linux the most, I only use Win7 out of necessity. However my laptop runs Linux, which is perfect for what I use it for.

Linux, BSD (FreeBSD), OSX, and then Windows. I'm running Win8 on my desktop right now simply out of necessity but my laptop and servers all run Linux (Arch) or BSD (FreeBSD).

i have to say mac os becaus of the os itself but the whole apple thing around it i dont like that much and the fact that i cant play most of my games isnt very good

So...FreeBSD?  ;)

I haven't tried windows 8 much, but what experience i've had with it in stores it's fine. I would have to say windows 7 though since it's the only one i've used extensively on the list.
