You may have to call mastercard and add the exception to your account to be making a sizeable purchase in America like that. I wouldn't call it a fail in any way, just a proof that they're protecting you from fraudulent charges if your card was stolen.

Most likely it was the fraud department protecting you from unauthorized purchases.  Just call them and explain what you're trying to do.  They'll let the charge go through.

I get this a lot when buying items from Texas.  I just called Master Card and say I'm buying X from company Y and it will be Z dollar amount.  They then allow the transaction to go through.

A lot of scam companies are registered in places like the United States and the UK to appear legit.

I worked for a company registered in the USA & only after several years of existing, I was the first person with American citizenship.

The company wasn’t even located in the Western Hemisphere.

Newegg has been around and shipping computer parts for about 18 years now. They are definitely not a scam company and numerous people on here have bought from them.

It's most likely that the purchase was too large compared to OP's normal buying habits and as such was flagged by the automatic system as abnormal, coupled with the fact they are buying from a company outside of their country it will usually result in a flag.

Of course. However because it’s overseas to his Scandinavian country, it’s not a bad idea to second guess its legitimacy. After all Scandinavia likely has its own pc part websites.

Edit: and I doubt Op orders from western USA on a regular basis.

Credit and debit cards have auto-restrictions in place when you get one. Usually its within country where you live, but you can easily add regions, like Europe. I just got debit card by calling to my bank and added Europe to have it available for traveling.

Also, I hope you have thought your purchase through. If you live in EU or ETA, you will get added import tax and customs fees when purchasing from US. Plus shipping ofc. Which is why its usually not worth it unless you are getting something which isn't available in EU/ETA. You can check how much tax and customs are from your country's border agency.

This is clearly just a fraud detection/prevention mechanism on the part of your MasterCard provider.

You live in Europe, then they detect a huge $1000 purchase in America - it simply raised a red flag.

You should call your bank back and tell them that you are intentionally making this purchase, and they need to clear/approve it. Once they give you the go-ahead, re-try your Newegg purchase.
