"Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Pinnacle Ridge CPUs (Second Gen Ryzen). Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions. "

You might be fine, but I'd poke around to see if others have needed an update prior to use.

its because you may need a BIOS update for the board to properly support it.

The other site may just be comparing physical compatibility - you can put that CPU into the socket and it will work. It may just need a bit more work.

because technically they are. Its the same AM4 socket. its a Firmware upgrade, not a hardware issue.

different definition of 'compatible'. 2600 and B350 boards arent compatible 'out of the box' because the mobo could carry old BIOS that doesnt work with 2600, but the board's hardware do support the 2600 and a BIOS update will accomplish that.

The 1600 will work, no issue.

The 2600 will need a new BIOS to work on 1st gen boards.

They are both AM4 CPU's and are compatible hardware wise, but need a fix software wise.

I dont know shit about bios, but arent those bios updates up-to-date?

It won't work period. And there's no way to update BIOS without a compatible CPU first (though there are like one or two boards that are the exception, but not in this case).

If it needs a bios update to run the CPU it just simply wont work. Not slow, not buggy, just not at all. You will need a CPU that works with the current BIOS to do the update. If you're unsure or nervous about possibly doing bios updates then select different hardware(first gen ryzen, or an out of the box compatible motherboard).

The performance gap between the 1600 and 2600 is so little you might aswell get the 1600 with an ASrock AB350 PRO4 mobo and save a buck.

You can the later on upgrade to Ryzen 3000 or 4000 as long as you then update the BIOS. The 3000 and 4000 series will be significantly faster than 1st and 2nd gen

Edit: if you dont plan on upgrading, get a B450 mobo and the 2600

When will 3000 and 4000 series come out? I know that nobody can say when it comes but if you have any idea..

But even without upgrading, isnt 1600 still good?

1600 will keep you company nicely for quite a while. Games are more often than not bottlenecked by the GPU anyway

3000 series will come out next year in April. 4000 same month a year later.

Get a B450 if you want to use the Ryzen 5 2600 out of the box. B350 is a hit or miss, that means there is no way to tell if the bios is up to date until you physically try out the CPU. Asus ROG board (not ROG strix) lets you update the bios without the CPU.
