Minimum cpu for a gtx 1080

Hey guys,

i want to know what the cheapest cpu that doesnt bottleneck the gtx 1080 whne its not overclocked is.

i5 8400/ r5 2600 / i7 7700.

But the i 5 8400 bottlenecks the gtx 1080 in games like thomb raider. Btw i wan tto play 1440p.

no it doesnt, especially at 1440p. The higher the resolution, the less important cpu is.

really? like that thing about the highe resolution eqauals less cpu usage. But does that really not bottleneck in games like Battlefield 5?

It doesn't, the i5 8400 is enough for a GTX 1080, in fact buying a 1080 nowadays solely for gaming is pointless, the 1070 Ti once overclocked delivers the same performance.

 

If you're going to multi-task a lot and have use for a more beefier CPU the best way around would be go wit hthe 1070 Ti to save those 50ish dollars and keep the same gaming performance and then go for the i7 8700 with it's hyper-threading and higher boost clocks.

no, it shouldnt, especially at 1440p.

The only thing the 8400 would lose at against the i7s are hyper threading at 1440p. Most decent CPUs and up perform similarly from 1440p and up so if you want extra cores and threads then go for the r5 2600 but if not then go with the I5 8400
