HP ML350P Gen 8 Help

Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a refurbished ML350p which comes with a single 2609v2 and looking at upgrading to two 2660v2 or two 2670v2.

I realise the official upgrade path is through the HP CPU kits but they are a lot more expensive than buying the CPU separately. Is there any reason why I can't just buy the correct CPU heatsink and fan assembly and provide my own CPU as long as it has the blue HP CPU clip?

Also, the official docs don't mention the 2660v2 as a compatible CPU but would there be any reason why it wouldn't work?

Thanks in advance.

Yes buying any will be fine and all CPUs from that generation will work. You should even be able to get HP server heatsink/fan cheap on ebay as well.

That's great, I'm assuming it's the same with RAM as well?

It'll take any DDR3 ECC RDIMM, yes. Up to 32GB a pop.
