  • If he's playing on PC, plug a wireless keyboard or mouse in to the back of his computer where he won't see it and take control of his computer whenever he's playing. Be subtle about it and just make him turn around randomly when he's trying to shoot at someone. If using a keyboard then every once in a while just swap his gun (preferably during fights). Occasionally hit the build buttons so he places walls in front of him while he's running.

I like this idea!!!!!

I assume that diplomacy has not worked? You could simply unplug the Ethernet cable randomly until he agrees not to disable WiFi. Do your grandparents know that your cousin is turning their WiFi off?

If all else fails, you could reset the grandparents router back so WiFi is enabled and any other settings that were changed are undone then change the router's password. Explain to your grandparents that your cousin is intentionally changing settings in their router that causing things like WiFi to break. Assuming that this router has a default password it is a lot safer not to use the default anyway... Tell your grandparents not to share the password with anyone else. Then simply hand them a post-it note with the new password.

Oh and while you're in their router anyway make sure the firmware is up to date... If your grandparents are like many, it'll be at box release firmware version.

There's no place like ~

Grow a back bone and tell him to fuck off, your grandparents pay for the internet, not his mom, not him etc. you have as much right to use it as him, considering your both guests in the house. There are others in the house who'd also be using the Wifi also, and I can almost guarantee they are just too nice to say anything.

Yeah if that doesn't work do just log into the router and change the QoS settings to make fortnite the lowest rated. and setup a static DNS A record from fortnite.com (or whatever the website is) to lemonparty.

I would love to tell him to screw off but the all of the adults here always take his side and his mother gave him everything he wants and now he's a selfish prick. I've called his mother out on it but she won't listen, and even if the other adults agree with me they won't do anything.

Find something you REALLY have to show your grandparents on the internet, cat videos are always a go-to... wait until he's playing the game and then say "Hey I wanted to show you - but the wifi seems to be turned off again"

Say you need to use the wifi for some schoolwork/work.

Things were simpler when I was a kid, you'd smack the shit out of them until they stopped being pricks... similarly if you were being a prick then you got the shit beat out of you. Sure made sharing things easier :D

We didn't have wifi as it hadn't been invented. We did have computers though and shared time on them, even if they were your own computers.

Most routers have mac address blocking nowadays. Just login to the router, find the PC he is currently on via IP, copy the mac turn on access control and block his mac and change the router password.

Boom, doesnt matter what port or even over wireless, he cannot connect.

Just log in to the router and block his MAC address. Easy. His ethernet trick won't work anymore and he will have no idea why it is not working, so he will then use Wi-Fi meaning that it will be on so then you will also be able to use it. You could also limit his speed on Wi-Fi so that he does not bring the entire network to it's knees. Make sure to change the login password as well so that he can't get in and poke around.

So I'm staying in my grandparents apartment with my family, and my 12 year old cousin just sits here and plays Fortnite. He also uses and Ethernet cable and turns off the WiFi to hog all of the bandwidth. I need a way to stop his Ethernet cord from working while also making it hard to notice why it stopped working. However, I have to be able to fix it so I don't have to pay for a new one.

The simpler the better, Thanks.

This seems to me as a selfish request. For what reason do you want to sabotage his game? So you self can play?

As for messing with the router is a no no, you do not own it and have no right.

And what do you mean eats all the bandwith? Are you sure it's the bandwith he is taking or just pulls the maximume out of the internet connection? There is a huge diffrence here.

Please be more clear.

The issue isn't that he uses all the bandwidth, its that he turns off WiFi so nobody else can use it as he WANTS all the bandwidth to himself.

Honestly like others have said, why not just turn WiFi back on?  He would then have to stop playing to turn it off again, just keep doing it.

But then ultimately if the other adults, especially the ones who pay for the connection, are okay with his behaviour, then you don't have a right to do anything.

Yes they used slightly wrong terminology but it was pretty obvious what they meant.

Only really practical if the owner doesn't WANT to be able to turn off WiFi, plus the router may be the property of the ISP.  From how convoluted this is it sounds like the kid and the router are in the same room so none if this is practical while they are there, thus asking if there is something underhanded they can do.

In which case the big problem is that the person whose broadband it is doesn't care that the kid is acting like this.  In which case anything they do WILL result in an argument and potentially get THEM barred from their grandparents, rather than preventing the kid from abusing the connection/relationship.

Sadly its the grandparents responsibility/choice if they allow this to continue.

Hmmm ....if you really want to annoy him:

- Open CMD and use this command "arp -a".
- Look for his IP adress and get the MAC address from this. (if you don't know his IP address then just try one and change your ip address to it and see if he reacts, if not try another one untill he has some problems, then you know his mac address).
- Write a script which sets your IP address to the same IP address as in the ARP table for his mac address and let it run continously. So every time he fixes his problem it works for X minutes (depending on how often you run your scirpt) and then it has problems again.

That wont work as the key problem is NOBODY can get online but the kid.

The only real way to troll the kid with no access to the router while he is using it (which hasn't been confirmed but seems pretty obvious at this point) would be to modify the PC the kid is using when he isn't there.

In which case you could change the hosts file to block the fortnite servers, or install some parental control software that does the same.  I'm sure there are solutions that are invisible to the end user.

But as I said before, its up to the grandparents if its their broadband and/or PC.  Doing anything without their blessing is a terrible idea as its probably not the kid they will fall out with.
