$2,000 General Use/Gaming Build

WadeM518

Hello Everyone, I have wanting to build my own PC for a while and have done a ton of research.  I have saved up a budget of a little over $2,000 and created this part list, https://pcpartpicker.com/user/WadeM105/saved/dvPbjX.  I realize it is a bit above $2,000 but I am willing to wait to build the PC I want.  Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if you would like to create your own part list to recommend.  Thanks!

It is displayed in the "other" category because it wasn't found on PCPartPicker's part list.  And that would be great, thanks!

If aesthetics aren't the reason for the selection you can save about $120 by changing a few things. Amazon has been selling an EVGA 1070 ti for $469. The new Samsung 860 evo is cheaper than the 850 evo and a G.SKILL TridentZ ram kit is about $20 cheaper depending on color. Also, an EVGA 650 G3 is cheaper too.

Edit:

I see someone made some changes on a list they just posted. I love they you found that 1080 instead, but don't forget about the newer Samsung 860 evo. Also, the EVGA 650 G3 is fully modular for a little more.

Thanks for the reply!  Aesthetics are definitely a concern of mine, as I will have a side panel.  I was definitely considering the Samsung 860 and may change, as well as an EVGA power supply.

I am getting a new $450 monitor which is included in the budget, otherwise, I definitely would upgrade my GPU, and I do like your list, it has the same brands I like.

It performs worse in many tasks, including Adobe CC and gaming.

Do you have a specific use case for Intel over AMD?

Ryzen 2000 is cheaper and greatly closes the gaming gap that Ryzen 1000 had.

Depends who you go by, some say August, which really isn't that far off.

And, if you actually read what I said, I asked if he was in a hurry. If he has something that works now, waiting wouldn't hurt ;)

With a $2000 build there is a lot lot of improvement you can make elsewhere by saving money and getting an AMD CPU (unless you have a specific use case for Intel of course).

Here's a list with AMD:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WBN4gw

Here's a list with Intel:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zb43RJ

If you compare the two lists you'll notice I could squeeze a gtx 1080 ti into the the AMD build, but could only manage a gtx 1080 in the Intel build at a similar price. Maybe you want Intel for reasons outside of gaming, but from a pure gaming perspective an r5 2600 + gtx 1080 ti will almost universally beat i7 8700k + gtx 1080 framerates ESPECIALLY since you want a resolution >1080p.

AMD's StoreMI (since I chose an X470 board) should give the AMD build a better storage situation as well. If you don't know what StoreMI is, check this out:

Either list you go with I think you get a better deal than the original post.

CPU: i7 4790k @ 4.7 GHz

GPU: XFX GTS RX580 4GB

Cooling: Corsair h100i

Mobo: Asus z97-A
