1080 Ti worth it for 400 USD more?

Zeorth

Where I live the cheapest  GTX 1080 costs 730 USD and the cheapest GTX 1080 Ti costs 1150 USD. Is it worth it for that big of a difference or should I take that money and spend it on a better monitor? Right now I have one 1080p monitor but thinking about getting a 1440p one.

What's the rest of your build like?

It's kind of hard to say without seeing the complete picture.

If you're just running a 1080p60 or 1440p60 monitor, just get the 1080.

That price for a 1080Ti is insane. Obviously, the performance gains from a 1080Ti do not worth $400 more. And yeah, do like @dizmo suggests.

I7 8700K, Z370-F, 850W PSU

The 1070Ti is only 10-20 USD cheaper.

Right now my monitor is 1080p 144 Hz but as stated I might get a 1440p 144 Hz or 1080p 144 Hz more. Depending on if I get a 1080 or 1080 Ti

Bang for the buck, totally not worth it! Known you got the "best" graphics card out there, probably? But for how long? No one knows...

Maybe get 1080 and monitor is a better choice? I would look into 4k monitor too if I'm you.

I usually upgrade my whole system every 1,5-2 years so you think a GTX 1080 will last for that long?

What does lasting mean? Ultra settings over 60fps at 1440 or higher? Not a chance. You would be lucky to get away with that at high settings.

Should do ok for a 1080p rig.

I currently have a 970 and can play BF1 at ultra settings on a 1080p at 80ish FPS

That still doesn’t answer the question.

Yes and no, depends your settings. I am running 1080ti at 1440p, cant get stable 80+ fps ultra settings for most new games.  So I doubt even 1080ti can run smooth 60+ on 4k ultra.

You mean 144 frames? 2 years from now? Yea should last quite a bit at high for most optimized games.

The card is almost 2 years into its life cycle right now. So it’s gonna be a late upgrade and it’s gonna fall off quick given current game progression. 144 frames is already asking along, even on high at 1080. Really gonna come down to the game and system.

People buy 1050 Ti and 1060’s still so I think the 1080 is quite good. I doubt the new series of gpus are going to be a huge upgrade anyways even though the 1080 is 2 years into its life cycle.
