That PC isn't even that expensive and there's not a whole lot you can do to upgrade that old prebuilt anyhow. That build is about the best bang for the buck budget system today.

CPU: Core i9 12900K || CPU COOLER : Corsair H100i Pro XT || MOBO : ASUS Prime Z690 PLUS D4 || GPU: PowerColor RX 6800XT Red Dragon || RAM: 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance (3200) || SSDs: Samsung 970 Evo 250GB (Boot), Crucial P2 1TB, Crucial MX500 1TB (x2), Samsung 850 EVO 1TB || PSU: Corsair RM850 || CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Mini || MONITOR: Acer Predator X34A (1440p 100hz), HP 27yh (1080p 60hz) || KEYBOARD: GameSir GK300 || MOUSE: Logitech G502 Hero || AUDIO: Bose QC35 II || CASE FANS : 2x Corsair ML140, 1x BeQuiet SilentWings 3 120 ||

Actually, you can put an i7-2600 or xeon e3-1280 in it for a significant upgrade.  You can also get a Xeon e3-1240 for similar performance at a significantly cheaper cost.

Put that and a 1050Ti in it and you can play pretty much any game on the market.

The only other thing you may need is a better PSU and 2x8gb DDR3 1333 memory modules.

E3-1280 $120 --or-- E3-1240 $60  (Both of these give better performance than the R3, more threads)

GTX 1050 Ti $180 --or-- RX 560 4gb $150

2x8gb DDR3 (any speed will work, but it will only run at 1333) $100 (double the memory of the suggested build)

500w PSU $30-$50

Total cost range $360 - $450,  I would go with the E3-1240 and RX 560 for maximum cheapness.

I actually have a similar setup (E3-1280/RX 560 2gb) and it plays pretty much any game I can throw at it.  Though the 2gb RX 560 has issues in some games because of the limited video memory.  Other than those few titles, 1080p/60 FPS isnt really a problem as long as you use mediumish graphics settings.

My room mate has an E3-1240/RX 470 and can play pretty much any game at 1080p/high settings.

yank the hard drive out and put it in a new computer, looks to be the only thing salvageable from it, all the other parts are to old, DDR3 ram can't be used with new motherboards and CPU's and that CPU is to weak to do anything worth doing and then you don't know if that PSU is worth a damn enough to run a higher end CPU and a dedicated graphics and any CPU you could put in will be used as it's to old to find any new CPU's for that platform. just to much money invested in really old hardware honestly, newer hardware uses less power too.

I dont think ~50w vs ~90w is going to make or break the deal.  SB/IB parts still hold up well given the fact that they are... ~$60 for a 4c/8t part.  Not to mention the cost of DDR4 currently.  Taking RAM from one build to the next is also not the best choice if you are adding more modules.

I had a R5 1400 @ 3.8ghz, and performance was pretty much equal to the E3-1280 (picked up on e-bay for $70).  But the R5 used much more expensive memory, required an overclock for parity, was $80 more expensive, and required a $30 more expensive motherboard.
