Good free cloning software? hdd to m.2 ssd

I am getting a m.2 ssd in the mail tomorrow.  I want to clone my windows 10 system from my wd hdd to my new m.2 ssd.  Anyone have good recommendations for a free cloning software that will do this?  Also anything i should do first before i start the process?

Yes, it was easy to use and worked well.  I did a real format on my hdd last night and fell asleep lol, i will probably do a quick format the next time i need to do it.

I don't have experience with Aomei, but I used the free version of Macrium Reflect to clone a 250GB HDD from a Dell computer, including the weird Dell restore partition, to a new Samsung 850 Evo SSD and it worked perfectly.

I can't find the YT video I watched on the subject, but here is a different one that looks decent:

Exciting that you are getting an M.2 SSD. Best of luck!

If that doesn't work out for you, Clonezilla works very well but is a bit more complicated, you can ask if you need help

Live boot any linux distro and use dd command to copy your HDD.

While I would recommend this to more experienced users, chances are the poster doesn't know how to do that;

not to mention a direct image will probably not work unless his hard drive is smaller than his SSD.

Desktop: HP Z220 Workstation, 12 GB RAM, 2x500 GB HDD RAID0, + GTX 1060 3GB

Laptop: ThinkPad T430, 8 GB RAM, 1x120 GB SSD

Yes, I haven't messed around with linux in years. . . I would have probably messed something up lol.

Just shrink the partition of the homefolder down to the size of the SSD (and make it 10 gig smaller to be sure).

if you are sure the output file/drive is correctly defined, there are no risk in using it.
