The Hyper 212 on Coffee Lake will only let you run it at stock speeds because it will get so hot. If you are wanting to overclock, buy an 240MM AIO, like the H110i. If you don't want to overclock, buy an i5 8400 and with the saved money, a better GPU.

But for $800, and no GPU, it's not really worth it. Your getting only single channel memory, and no GPU.

@orbitalbuzzsaw made a good build with Ryzen, that costs just over $1000, but has a well performing GPU in it.

I beg to differ. I ran my 8600K at 4.7GHz and under full load it maxed at 69C. Others will have different results though, I probably got lucky.

I do run my 8600K now at 4.4GHz and temps rarely go above 45C, it's not so bad.

What's wrong with the build I put together (besides the lack of a GPU atm)? Also, this is a build for a friend so nothing will be reused.

Probably a 1070, depending on the pricing in a few months.

Also, I got a single stick of 8GB to allow for 16GB in the future if it's necessary, but I doubt it will be.

1 : 8GB of RAM isn't really enough anymore

2 : Ryzen 5 matches the Core i5 at a lower price not to mention the free overclocking ready cooler that comes with the CPU

3 : PSU you have is not great

Idk if I'm gonna sound ignorant right now but when I made my first PC I didn't really see anybody choose AMD unless they were making a relatively budget build. Is this not the case anymore? Because your build is only about $30 cheaper if I change the PSU to the one you selected and subtract the cost of the 1060. Also, the single 8GB stick allows me to go back for another stick if I really need it.

the 1070-1080ti cards are already at or very close to MSRP, the mining craze is over.
