  • Intel has announced the availability of their Optane DIMMs, bringing 3D XPoint memory onto the DDR4 memory bus.

    • will be branded as Optane DC Persistent Memory, in contrast with Optane DC SSDs, and not to be confused with the consumer-oriented Optane Memory caching SSDs.

  • Initially available in three capacities: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB per module.

    • This implies that they are probably still based on the same 128Gb 3D XPoint memory dies used in all other Optane products so far.

  • The modules are pin-compatible with standard DDR4 DIMMs and will be supported by the next generation of Intel's Xeon server platforms.

  • Currently sampling and will be shipping for revenue later this year, but only to select customers.

    • Broad availability is planned for 2019.

  • Intel is not officially disclosing whether it will be possible to mix and match DRAM and Optane Persistent Memory on the same memory controller channel

    • the 192GB DRAM capacity for the development preview systems indicates that they are equipped with a 16GB DRAM DIMM on every memory channel.

  • Also not disclosed: power consumption, clock speeds, specific endurance ratings, and whether it will be supported across the Xeon product line or only on certain SKUs.

Rumour: Intel discontinuing production of H310 Chipset to push consumers to more expensive chipsets

Source 1: AluminiumTech https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/933132-intel-reportedly-discontinuing-production-of-h310-chipset-to-push-consumers-to-more-expensive-motherboards/

Source 2: https://www.techpowerup.com/244021/a-push-for-the-higher-margin-intel-reportedly-discontinues-production-of-its-h310-chipset

  • Intel has reportedly discontinued production of its H310 chipset due to lower than expected production capacity for chipsets on the 14 nm process.

  • Intel hopes that the absence of H310 will funnel consumers toward the B360 and Z370 chipsets.

    • These chipsets have higher margins

  • After a single month of tight supply for the H310 chipset, motherboard makers are now forced to use Intel's B360 chipset in their more cost-conscious options - a part which carries higher cost, and thus precludes manufacturers from hitting all the price points they usually would with a fully vertical Intel chipset lineup.

  • Speculation has emerged claiming Intel suspended the supply of H310 because they have chosen to conduct a manufacturing process change from the tight-supply 14 nm to a 22nm fabrication technology.

    • Further speculation says the 14 nm supply is constrained because of the delay in advancing to 10 nm

    • The game’s trailer depicts a player running down school halls and through classrooms, indiscriminately murdering teachers until a S.W.A.T. team shows up.

  • The Steam forums were dominated by threads calling for Valve to do something about the game, as well as people criticizing Valve for the fact that it gives the boot to many games containing nudity while letting the likes of Active Shooter stay.

    • “I love offensive humor as much as the next guy, but you’re dense as hell if you can’t see why a pay-to-play school shooting simulation game might be taking it a step too far,” said one user.

  • The developer and publisher, a person calling himself Ata Berdiyev, has a history of customer abuse, publishing copyrighted material, and user review manipulation

    • At least a dozen staff resigned over the issue.

Waymo is way ahead

Source 1: https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/06/as-uber-and-tesla-struggle-with-driverless-cars-waymo-moves-forward/

Source 2:

  • Waymo announced on Thursday that it was ordering 62,000 Pacifica minivans from Fiat Chrysler.

  • In March, the company announced a deal with Jaguar Land Rover to build 20,000 fully self-driving I-PACE cars.

  • Meanwhile, Uber, Nvidia, and Toyota all suspended self-driving car testing in the wake of the March Uber crash, and a Tesla customer died in a crash in Mountain View the very same month.

  • In October 2015, Google was already confident enough in its technology to let a blind man take an unaccompanied test drive on Austin streets. Almost three years later, it's not clear if anyone else has managed to build technology as sophisticated as Waymo had back then.

  • Waymo has already shifted from technology development to commercialization

    • In April 2017, Waymo announced its early rider program, giving handpicked families a chance to take rides in Waymo's prototype Chrysler Pacifica minivans.

    • The move allowed Waymo to start thinking about customer-facing issues, like the user interface for self-driving cars and how the car's driving style affects passenger comfort.

Gonna be honest I was wondering why you guys were saying Welsh spent so much money on casual game.

"The biggest percentage of your money comes from whales," not Wales. I am clearly not the sharpest bulb in the bunch.

@LinusTech You posted the wrong link on Facebook.

You also never talked about the AMD CPU's (other than to say it's good to put pressure on Intel) so that was a weird thumbnail choice.

Oh totally the second thing.

Additionally, this is the first time they ever switched for a whole episode:

Which would not occur again until:

I spent.... a long time scrolling. And they've been talking about Star Citizen for like six years or something.

Hahahahahahaha.

Also, lots of games feature children and unsavoury events. :( It really should be a universal standard, and set much higher than it currently is.

They did also call them "uninteresting", after licking Intel's taint both before and after about some stupid DIMMs that no one but them care about.  Because the one computer tech that's been lighting the world on fire for the last little while is Optane, amirite?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Just another clickbait title from a channel that's become more and more reliant on spectacle over substance.

The whole "Video Games cause violence" debate has been going on for years. for me i'll say what i always say it's not the game that's the problem it's the parenting (or lack of it). It's not a games job to teach someone morals and how to do things right, that's the parents job; stop being lazy ass parents. Granted there are games which make you think twice about your morals (Like the Mass Effect games) but even these don't teach you morals they just build on what you already learnt
