How much will a Pentium E5800 bottle neck a 750 Ti in games?

Just wondering cause I've got a 750 ti in shipping that I'm about to put into an Optiplex with an E5800.

Looks like a pretty decent bottleneck.

Isn't that a 5300 not a 5800?

But they seem to have very similar performance. With the e5800 you might see a little better fps.

but yeah they are similar. How much you pay for that??????

After a small bit of research, I’ve come to the conclusion that yes, there would be a significant bottleneck, specially in relatively recent games like Battlefield 4, but if that’s all you’ve got, I’d say go for it and see if you can get a core2quad Q6600, which will be cheap since it is compatible with the same motherboard, but it’ll be enough to alleviate the bottleneck thank to its four cores.

ZamoRIG 2.0:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 @ 3.9GHz

Cooling: DeepCool Captain 240 RGB + 2x Corsair ML120 fans

Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming x2

Motherboard: Asrock X370 Gaming K4

RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 G Skill Ripjaws V Grey @ 2800MHz

SSDs: 2xPatriot Ignite M.2 240GB

HDD: WD Black 1TB + WD Green 2TB

 PSU: Corsair RM750

ZamoRIG “Portable”:

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 4GHz

If you can get your hands on a Q6600, do the tape mod and your bottleneck woes will be over.

Source: my Optiplex 755 SFF that's got a Q6600 tape modded and a low-profile 750 Ti installed.

I really won't be doing anything past CS:GO, Fortnite, and some light emulation. Would I still need to get something with more cores?

yeah but that isn't really an option for me right now. I do have a Core i5-4440 lying around that I'll put into something. Until I get the money for a motherboard for that, I'm stuck with this optiplex

A lot.

Even in fairly light games like CS:GO and Fortnite?

Tape mod is where you have a socket 775 CPU and buy a sticker off eBay and cover 4 pins so it works in a socket 771 CPU. It's cheap and works great.

Lots of guides online for it. Basically, you take two tiny slits of electrical tape and cover two of the contacts on the back of the CPU. This makes the motherboard think the FSB is 1333MHz instead of 1066MHz, bringing your Q6600 up to a clock speed of 3.0GHz. Easiest overclock ever.

He isn't using an external capture card. Its being put on the dual core CPU, I'd say it would look a little different if he wasnt running OBS.

Sooo what you're saying is:

1. Swap E5800 in my Optiplex 380 for a Q6600

2. Overclock it by putting electrical tape on it

3. ???

4. Profit?

Yeah, pretty much. Vastly more power than a dual core Pentium.

That's the cheapest way. Q6600 @ 3.0GHz is a pretty good pair with the 750 ti.

No. You only need electrical tape for the BSEL mod.

What's a good price for a Q6600? And since you've practically got the same optiplex config, will the PSU be able to handle the Q6600 + 750 Ti?

OP should get a new CPU
