According to Dark Reading the there is malware being preinstalled in firmware on some Phones and Tables.

Even though it is not concerned to us in the EU, I still find it quite disturbing that they preinstall ad loaders in the firmware that cannot/are hard to remove.

Basically, you’re paying for the “privilege” to see ads...
