Not a scam, you will get your money. The reason it takes so long is slow postage getting to them and slow postage back, so it can take up to a month or two

If it's MSI, don't count on ever getting the rebate. I've waited 4 years for my rebate from them :^)

MIR's are not a scam.  They are just a PAIN and they are hoping that you go 'Ooo!  $20 mail in rebate!  I'll pay full price now and get my money later!  ...Okay I got my stuff... Yup here is the MIR form!  I'll do that later! ...It's been eight months... Did I ever do that MIR?  No I didn't... Can I still do that or is it too late?  ...Damnit.  Oh, well, whatever, I already got my computer anyway.'

MIR is the most stupid sales pitch I've heard from you capitalists. Stores do that only to make it look like things are cheaper. When they could as well sell things cheaper. (Jayz2Cents talked about MIRs in some video not so long ago, and he's main point was that they are really stupid marketing trick.)

I've done tons of them. (maybe 20 or so?) There legit.

They're also pretty inconvenient. Be sure to carefully fill them out, manufacturers love find any excuse to get out of reimbursing you.

 

In my experience, Corsair has by far, the best MiR program. Usually about 2 weeks turn around.

Cooler Master and Newegg are usually pretty good. like a month or so.

Everyone else (ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, EVGA) take MONTHSSSSS. longest wait i have had is 8 months from ASUS. The www.4myrebate.com ones are especially long although the ability to check the status i find is very good and up to date. (Unlike EVGA! EVGA's is like, never updated until i get the card in the mail)

It's definitely not a scam, just takes a while to get the money back. Finding $20 in the mail one day is pretty nice though.

I will relay this story for you - Xbox 360, lots of junk about getting one for free. So I decided to give it a shot.

 

In order to get the console for free, I had to sign up for trials, prove it, and then fill out a form, and send in the information.


What gets a lot of people is they sign up for trials and never bother to cancel them, but I went through the whole process, tracked the trials, canceled everything and got the

360 for free. It was a miracle, of course, the same thing with rebates, they want you to go through the hassle to send in a form, and other info to get it, so you don't really want to have to do it. If you can use $60 bucks, then you should definitely go through the effort to get that rebate.
