Huion comes to mind in terms of Wacom alternatives, although I have not personally used one yet (partially because electronics shops in my area don't carry them for public testing)

read a few online who started recommending them, so I can only namedrop the brand in terms of recommendation ._.

Nothing is better than Wacom. Nothing!

I've used their multiple tablets for years with no issues.

Get a Wacom Intuos Small. Their newest model should be within $100.

It's better to have a very solid small one that will last for 10 years then a big one that will break in a year.

Edit: and there's also the fact that their pens are completely wireless and with no batteries, so you will never have to deal with stutter from the pen when the battery is dying.

I can vouch for Wacom as well, as I have been using one for years now. I am using their most budget model from 2015 (which is equivalent to their newer Intuos Small models) and it works like a charm. A larger pad is useful for larger screens or more precise work and an eraser part is also convenient to have.
