Whats your budget? for low end amd is very competitive with their ryzen 2200g and 2400g. For mid range 200 ish they are pretty close but intel beats amd when it comes to strictly gaming. For high end 8700 is best. For enthusiast level amd is much better than intel with thread ripper 1950x.

Depends on the game.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

3000 total? Also what games, what resolution and refresh rate. Also instead of picking piece individually like 1 post for cpu post one thing in new builds and planning.

Do you have $3k to spend right now on a PC?

For the most part I'd go with either an R7 2700X or 1950X , more cores are more fun.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

Ya I'm wanting to build a system with a $3g budget. Thought i wanted a Ryzen now I'm not sure what i want. I have no love towards either brand so it really doesn't matter to me. I just want the best gaming pc for my money.

Not necessarily. Even with the release of Ryzen 2, Intel still is the champion in gaming. Sure, if you're doing other stuff, like productivity tasks, or using some games that benefit from 8+ cores, AMD is definitely for you. However, most games rely on powerful single-core performance. For just pure gaming, i'd go with the 8700K.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

If you want the absolute best 144hz gaming go for coffee lake

But the extra 2 cores, soldered IHS, and StoreMI make ryzen the better platform overall IMO.

included an overkill SSD could add a hard drive, you don't need to go near $3000 for a gaming PC

Monitor options are $399 1440p 144hz IPS free-sync display, or a 4k 60hz IPS free-sync display of some kind. Better to just get a 1070ti for now rather than overpaying for a 1080ti when new GPUs are coming.

If you need to do more than just gaming grab a 1950X

For gaming Intel. Alot faster, if you buy Ryzen you'll have the same situation that people had when they bought a FX-Series CPU instead of Sandybridge.

Graphics Cards are getting faster, GAP will get bigger, most people just dont seem to realize.

2700x -> bottlenecking gtx1080ti

8700k+OC -> 20%+ headroom for something faster than a 1080ti.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't understand how anything other than a 8700K should be a consideration for a $3000 gaming build.

All this talk of Ryzen and Threadripper is bad advice because you are advising the purchase of a CPU that is clearly inferior for GAMING.

No, 8, 12, 16 or even 100 cores won't help you when games rely more on IPC and clockspeeds than huge amount of cores / threads.

And MOAR CORES!! ;) And... an upgrade path until 2020! But they forget to mention that it  might actually take until 2020 for AMD to catch up to Intel 2018 gaming... I'm not even joking on that one.

It's like a pattern, every single gaming thread you'll find someone recommending a Ryzen setup because they simply have a bias towards AMD rather than actually looking at the OPs situation and budget and recommending the best performing part for their needs. Instead, you'll find every excuse under the sun why Ryzen is 'better' for a gaming system, including 'moarrrr cores = moarrrr fun' :P
