I don't find it weird. People use it to do presentations with Macs on legacy projectors.

I did not intend for this thing to evolve into a fight..

The point of this thread was that i was confused that Displayport even have the necesary pins for VGA adaptation.
Anyone have any idea how this is done?

I bought it because i had a displayport out left in my graphics card and a VGA screen laying about in my apartment  that i wanted to use as an auxiliary display.

It is done by having the necessary pins...

I don't believe you can do surround gaming by using a DP to VGA adapter, but you can make it a passive display.

I use these all the time at my work.

Guys, please keep this on topic. There is no point in arguing whether or not this thread is useful. If you don't like it just go to another thread.

I've hidden all useless comments and will be monitoring this thread from here on.

It works by having a small chip inside it that takes the digital signals from the displayport and it converts it into analog signals that it feeds to the VGA port. It's called an active adapter because it actually does a signal conversion. They're usually on the slightly more expensive side, although they've become way cheaper when compared to a few years back.

There you have the price premium :)

If you were to take it apart you would see a small PCB. The adapter probably is on the bigger side as well?

not that big. about the size of a USB charger for a mobile phone. or the size of a match box
