Hi guys, My friend is planning to build a new PC and he want some advice on his planned build.

He wants to be able to play games like 'Cities, Skylines' and 'Kerbal Space Program' at Mid-High graphics at 60 FPS, and some light editing

Please mention if any parts are not compatible or under powered for what he wants to do.

The PC is as follows

CPU:Intel i5 7400 Quad core 3.0Ghz

Motherboard:Asrock B250M

RAM: Corsair 8gb DDR4

GPU:Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX560 2GB

SSD:Kingston 120gb

HDD:Cgate Barracuda 1TB

Case:Deepcool tesseract midtower

Monitor:Samsung 22inch LED monitor

PSU:Inwin force series 600W

OS:Windows 10 Home

Wifi Card:TP-Link 300mbps card

Thankyou Guys.

I have a R7 370, similar to a RX 560 in performance.

I get 60fps 720p Medium at best.

1080p 60fps? RX 560 is too weak. You need something like a GTX 1060 to do it reliably, though 1050ti might barely do it.

I'd try get a Ryzen quad core (2200g > 1200, do not get 1300x) with b350 mobo before considering 7400. Performance is similar, but there is an upgrade path.

That power supply also seems suspicious. We dont know what it's made of yet, but that usually means it sucks.

A) You are saying an RX560 (A card which is considered more powerful than a 1050) cannot run cities skylines 1080p60 at medium graphics?

B)That an i5 will underperform under the same conditions?

A) Yes. I own a R7 370 which is slightly weaker (same as RX 560 796) and barely get 20fps on large cities, 720p Low. Maybe 720p Medium on smaller cities.

B) Yes, since it has less threads and Cities Skylines loves threads.

A) RX 560 = GTX 1050 in performance. Cities Skylines favours Nvidia cards. Yes they are both too weak.

B) Yes, not fast enough and dead platform.

Okay this is rather confusing, I personally have a GTX 950 & a quad core i5, which consistently runs cities skylines medium graphics at solid 60fps, so either I accidentally got sent the wrong GPU from the box, or there is a cities skylines update which has doubled the system requirements for the game which I haven't downloaded.. I wonder which.

I don't have that many mods...

Maybe it's just poorly optimized for AMD but I highly doubt that.

If he's buying new, why is he buying last generation? You might as well buy used and save a ton of money.

Also, with the new way the 8th gen chips are laid out, you can get an i3 and get better performance than that i5.

Can he not run an ethernet cable?

Look into getting a better PSU. Google "LTT PSU Tier List" and pick something from the first three tiers.

Ryzen would be worth looking into as well, though Intel is usually an easier build.

@dizmo Okay, the reason he is considering last generation is the motherboard, the only motherboards with the Z370 chipset (the chipset that the new gen needs) are almost double the price of B250 chipset motherboards (from where we are buying them)

If the new Coffee lake CPU's can run on other chipsets then please tell me.

You can use B360 or H370 for the newer chips. You can find really cheap B360 boards.

They cannot run on previous chipsets.

A. While my 1050Ti does pretty well overall it still is a low end card and it's faster than an RX560.

Would recommend though as a budget very cool and power efficient card.

B. An 8th gen coffee lake i5 will tear an old i5 to shreds and even outperform or equal a lot of old gen i7s.

The Z370 thing was only short term when first released, I have one because I'm impatient to upgrade. There are cheaper motherboard chipsets now.

@artuc @dizmo Okay thankyou guys, you are the first people to actually give some good advice instead of just screaming that everything in our planned PC is trash.

So upgrading the CPU to a Coffee lake i5 such as a i5 8400 quad core? which will work with a b360 chipset motherboard.

Im also going to upgrade the PSU to a more reputable company.

Sadly we have to stick with the RX560 2GB, however from what we see it will be perfectly adequate for what he wants to do.

Thank you.

If he doesn't need much power, I'd really look into the i3 8100. The 8400 doesn't make much sense to pair with an RX560, you might as well save the money.

Alright, so an RX560 2GB with an I3 8100 can run CS,KSP and mid level titles 1080p60? (with mid graphics)?

@dizmo

Easily, anything can run CS. My roommate uses an i3 8100 with an R9 390. He plays pretty much everything and doesn't have any real issues.

Hi guys, My friend is planning to build a new PC and he want some advice on his planned build.

He wants to be able to play games like 'Cities, Skylines' and 'Kerbal Space Program' at Mid-High graphics at 60 FPS, and some light editing

Please mention if any parts are not compatible or under powered for what he wants to do.

The PC is as follows

CPU:Intel i5 7400 Quad core 3.0Ghz

Motherboard:Asrock B250M

RAM: Corsair 8gb DDR4

GPU:Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX560 2GB

SSD:Kingston 120gb

HDD:Cgate Barracuda 1TB

Case:Deepcool tesseract midtower

Monitor:Samsung 22inch LED monitor

PSU:Inwin force series 600W

OS:Windows 10 Home

Wifi Card:TP-Link 300mbps card

Thankyou Guys.

Dude....get something like this....

CPU: Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock - B360M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Patriot - Viper 4 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: Crucial - MX500 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Case: Cooler Master - MasterBox Q300L MicroATX Mini Tower Case
Power Supply: Cooler Master - MasterWatt 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

I have not added a GPU..

Get an old used radeon 7770 or 7790 fr pretty cheap....they go around fr $20-25.. .and save a few bucks as new series of Nvidia GPUs will be released within a month or two....

so... there's no point of going with rx560 currently....

@dizmo We are in NZ so 194 (NZD) which is 135USD New

Hmmm. With the money saved by getting an i3 over an i5, you should be able to afford a used GTX 970.

That'd be a much, much better choice.
