Normal load temp for Haswell?

I have a 4770K and it is not overclocked right now and im getting 51 degree Celsius. Is this a normal temp for Haswell under stock loads.

 

 

Also im running a H100i with SP120s at 1300rpm

turbo of 3.7 @ auto voltages. Stock, it maxes out at 1.2v, so since its under load 3.7Ghz @ 1.2v

currently running a 4770k with hyper 212 evo,

at idle all core are about 18 degrees

is this a good cpu?

also any recommendations for good cpu temps monitoring software?

yea its pretty good i idle around 35c mind you i live in Australia so my room is like boiling like 30c (not exaggerating) and its in a tiny case with a h80 as for temp monitoring i use real temp and my motherboard has its own temperature thing in the asus suite u can also use core temp i think that might be better than real temp.

For haswell that is normal. You can fix that heat issue however by moving to the north pole or by delidding your CPU which is very scary to watch.

I'm having trouble believing this. You do know that load means the cpu is running at 100% right?

Intel says 72.5 for max real world temps. Try to stay under that in rendering (max temps you will ever see). Stress testing in Aida will be slightly higher. Stress testing in prime/intelburntest will be MUCH higher and shouldn't be done outside water cooling.

 

That's about it. Anything below that is gravy. Above that? People do it, but I wouldn't if you want your chip to last a LONG time. If you are going to upgrade in 2 years? Sure, push it to the limit.

 

Stress test isn't a real load. Download Asus realbench and click h264 and let it encode a video. That is your real max. Cinebench is close also. Or better yet? Encode a video. :)

 

50 highs on water at stock are fine. Water really kicks in with higher voltage. You see the difference between it and air. My 4.5 at 1.22 on air is at 70 rendering, and on water that would be like 55C probably.

that's pretty much not possible with haswell. I hit 34 idling and around 64 loaded up

If you are hitting 72.5 in light loads? You are going to be throttling at high loads. Your post doesn't even make any sense. The other day you said 72.5 was idling "ideal". A Haswell is in the 40's on light loads on a cheap air cooler. While on the internet and crap it is in the 30's. That is how Haswell is designed.

In the article they mentioned mid 60's on their OC and say they are "within manageable parameters". Now this is even more conservative then Intel, but...

 

at least they have a clue about temps. 70 in real world loads is "ok". 60's is grand. 90's? You better be on a "gaming laptop" you should expect to break in a year or two if you play games a lot.

 

Do you see them saying 60C is "well below what we need to be"? No. Because they a) don't work for intel, and could care less if your chip breaks in a couple years (buy a new one), and b) have been around longer then 2 weeks building computers.

 

90's are horrendous. 80's are bad. Mid 70's is pushing it. 60's is beautiful.  72.5 rendering is what you want to shoot for, cus (big surprise here) that is a real world full load and that is what the specs of the chip are.

 

Shouldn't you be telling people that the 4770k stock cooler is good enough for gaming/rendering, while people who buy the Xeon with a clue, that runs SLOWER are complaining about heat while they render?

 

I mean seriously man. 72.5 degrees light load? On a Haswell? My god.

Something is wrong with your chip, cooling, both, or installation of your heatsink, i get 38-40 idle on intel stock cooler ( gonna buy the NH D14 soon ) at stock settings idle, it gets up to 45-50 with low load, and it goes up to 85 when cinebenching, and that is in a room with 23°C ambient, Gaming goes up to 75°C in crysis, but is just above 60 in Dota and similar stuff, your h100 should do a better job if all is in order!!

I get around 30 idle and 65c with aida stress testing, sometimes higher. I use a h100i. With prime95 I hit 85c, Max So I don't recommend using that for haswell.

Bit curious about OPs load testing. I got ambient around 23C, idle 35C, gaming 60C, full load 67C. These with U14S 80% max rpm.

Its not normal.

Do you have adaptive voltage or manual? 

I am on IvyBridge and my MOBO has offset, adaptive/auto and manual. I am using offset as it is the best way to combat the heat and attain adequate voltage for my CPU's OC. Regarding Haswell however, the heat is mainly because the TIM used between the IHS and the CPU DIE is cheap and has been improperly applied from what i have seen.

 

Looking at the link again i agree it is not normal. When i clicked it the first time i saw 47C for some reason now i see it is 27C, don't know how i made that mistake but i did, sorry. Also, your ambient plays a big part in the recorded temperatures. Maybe you got one of the better Haswell CPUs on the market and in that case i would OC that to the limit.

 

The VID is high to me. I get that VID voltage on my 4.5Ghz OC but i am sure that can be reduced even further.
