Should be fine, motherboard may need a BIOS update, it's probably updated by now

includes a 1080p 75Hz IPS free-sync display, but the motherboard doesn't have display port. More expensive boards have it but the Pro4 is probably the best budget board.

you can just get windows 10 for free using microsoft's own media creation tool

If you want a possibly better value system buy a $20 case, 8GBs of fast memory, and the R3 2200G, you'll probably be fine with the R3 2200G system, maybe just get the better case

no, the 1060 is good for high-ultra 1080p.

Oh, right, I wasn't even thinking of what you could squeeze into it with an extra 200 usd.

Ryzen 1 CPU's are compatible with every AM4 motherboard, it's the newer CPU's and APU's on older motherboards that require a BIOS flash.

Get an SSD and use it as a boot drive (the drive with Windows on it) so it doesn't take forever to boot.

Yeah, an SSD is faster, but an HDD is not only cheaper but also very large in capacity, I'm talking 2 terabytes for 70$

intel's abit better in gaming but since you're doing streaming the ryzen 1600 would be a better choice. don't bother with the 2400G since you already have an i7 3770 rig.

The whole point of the APU is being able to game on the intergrated graphics which are pretty alright

But if you already have an i7 3770 just toss in a GTX 1050ti or something which are currently overpriced, and upgrade to an R7 2700/X later if you want to do streaming.

@Herman Mcpootis

How do you know his OptiPlex 990 has an i7 3770? I found specs online about OptiPlex 990s with i7 2600s. I guess it doesn't really matter as long the i7 he has is sandy bridge or newer.

@kunka_boi161

I need you to answer some questions so I can better understand what upgrades will work best for you:

1: If I'm not mistaken you plan to primarily game, and potentially stream with this computer. Is this correct?

2: Which model of the OptiPlex 990 do you have? The desktop chassis, the minitower chassis, the small form factor chassis (SFF), or the ultra small form factor chassis (USFF)?

(See: https://i.dell.com/sites/doccontent/shared-content/data-sheets/en/documents/optiplex-990-spec-sheet.pdf)

3: Assuming you're running windows 10, right click the windows button in the bottom left of your primary screen and click the system option. A window will pop up with device specifications. Tell me the CPU model and amount of installed RAM this window says you have. If you don't have windows 10 tell me what operating system you do have.

4: You stated you wanted to build a new system. Does this mean you want a new case or do you like the OptiPlex case?

If your CPU is an i7 3770 like @Herman Mcpootis said it was then you should be fine on the CPU side. If the quantity of RAM is insufficient maybe upgrade the RAM (DDR3 is WAY less expensive than DDR4 right now), but a GPU upgrade should be your primary focus right now.

Assuming you have either the desktop or the minitower chassis, to upgrade your GPU you will first need a different PSU that will have the 6+2 pins necessary to support the new GPU. I recommend the CoolerMaster MasterWatt 550 (terrific budget PSU since it always seems to go for ~$35 when including an MIR at Newegg... here's a link https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171115&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker, LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=).

I found this ancient thread talking about OptiPlex 990 upgrades while searching for OptiPlex PSU info. Someone with a minitower chassis installed a full ATX PSU and a 9800GT, so as long as you have the minitower of desktop chassis standard PSUs and GPUs should fit. Anyways, here's the tread for your reference:

Hi thanks for replying to my post. right now im just think if building is better than upgrade an old workstation. my i7 is 2600. i believe i have the small tower atm. my guess is earning a little bit for this pc like getting a used GPU then buying a PSU then focusing on my main starter build

Ok. What do you expect with a new CPU platform? Increases in framerate, better physics, streaming... what? Like do you want a doubled framerate? Do you want to run more background programs while you play?

Please understand that I'm not trying to be rude. I'm really trying to get the best solution for YOU. The reason I'm asking about your expectations is because you may be able to harvest some parts from the old rig and build them into a new tower.

The monitors you have don't have very high refresh rates, so you might not need any more CPU horsepower. You may be able to harvest i7 2600, RAM, and motherboard while changing all other components (like the case, PSU, GPU, SDD/HDD) and get very similar apparent results if you changed everything including CPU, mobo, and RAM. In other words you could just save a lot of money since you might not have to buy another copy of windows (which version of windows are you running), a CPU, RAM (please look up how much your old system has as per #3 in my previous post), or a motherboard.

I'm also need to know whether you have the minitower, the sff, or the usff chassis. can you get a tape measure and tell me the approximate dimensions (height, width, legth) of your case?

CPU: i7 4790k @ 4.7 GHz

Hi thanks for understanding :) so i followed herman's advice and snap my current rig's specs here. since i have i7 2600 atm should i just reuse it? (and save up to $170-$200) or a ryzen 5 2400g is a better option for me? I also got a free win10 pro with key when i bought this PC from a shop. I wanted to change my MoBO for a new one (because you know aesthetics). My other option is when i complete lets say this build  https://pcpartpicker.com/list/r7sXvn and have some more left over money left i could just grab a pre-owned gtx970 or what for the 990 and give it to my brother since he plays cs go a lot.
