S8/S9 vs V30, taking price into consideration?

That's weird that you can't find an S8+ for less money than that.  I mean, I got my Note 8 on promo from Best Buy for $585 so I would think the S8+ could be found for pretty cheap nowadays.  Of course my Note 8 isn't unlocked (which I don't care about because I've been a life-long Verizon customer) so maybe that's why?  I dunno...

I'm on a Koodo plan in Quebec, so yeah, I either get it with them or unlocked. I've looked at Stapes, Best Buy, Newegg, and Amazon, and the best prices are by far the V30+ for $880, S8 for $800, and the S8+ for $900.

Why wouldn't they? I don't think Newegg is considered a grey market retailer. I'm pretty sure you'd still be covered by the manufacturer warranty.

Eh. I wouldn't. I'm not a fan of Newegg to begin with, let alone their refurb stuff.

Although on both Newegg and Amazon, they're sold by Swiftronics, and reviews seem to report people getting Asian regional variants and some already opened... Seems a little suspicious. This probably explains the "no warranty".

I'd buy through WowMobile or Koodo, but their Tab plans still confuse me to no end... Do either of you know how they work? For example, the Note 8 is $500 with Koodo on a two-year "Tab Large" plan. I've finished paying off my current phone as well, or rather, I got it for $80 outright when it was $500 normally on Black Friday, so it should show up as finished to them.

This.

3500mAh battery

Use for longer, phone will serve you for a longer time before battery craps out

Although I would rather get an OP5T and save a lot of $

OP5T is $800, so same as the normal S8.

Still better than the S8 with more RAM and higher capacity battery. Screen is lower in resolution (1080p) which is easier to run (power savings) and has a three-mode slider instead of Bixby button. No glass back that just attracts fingerprints and makes the whole device more prone to damage.

True enough, but it has a worse camera and I'd rather not send it back in to get the proper L-rating for Netflix, and it has limited compatibility with Koodo's bands.

Just another reason why I hate NewEgg.

Honestly, I wouldn't even risk it if that's the case. Asian regional variants won't give you proper coverage in Canada.

You pay $500 up front, and then the remainder of the phones value is split over 24 monthly payments. The different "tabs" are just varying levels of monthly payment plans. You usually get better deals on older phones as they try and clear out undesired inventory.

Found an S8+ for $900 on Canada Computers, Snapdragon version so it's definitely from here. Unlock code is on the package according to their site. AFAIK, Canada Computers doesn't allow third-party retailers, so this should be legit.

They have a refurbished S8 for $700, but eh, refurbished.

Not sure how worth it'd be to you, but if you have a phone laying around you're not using you can trade it in at a Samsung store and get the S9+ for $999.

My mother is going to get rid of an old Moto phone, and my brother his A5 2017.

I'd look into it. Even better is if you can find someone with a really old iPhone. When one of my friends turned in his broken, busted iPhone they gave him full credit (I think at the time it was $200 or $250) for it. If you go in, usually they can work with you a bit. If you managed to get the $150 credit (I only glanced through the fine print) then I'd say $50 more for the S9+ over the S8+ is worth it, for resale value alone.

My brother has a cracked, non-working iPhone 4S. My buddy also said he's willing to give me his partially working LG G4 to sell off. So I have an old Moto Phone, an A5 2017, a non-working 4S and a partially working LG G4 (volume does not want to work).

Here's what my friend did when he went in:

  • Bring all the phones.
  • Start with the worst one, see if the offer is to your liking.
  • If yes, accept. If not, say "what about this one" and pull out the next phone.

I think they give higher value to the iPhones as they see it as turning someone from their biggest rival. So it'd be my starter.

There's a Samsung Service Center close to me, is that the place?

Or do you think I could get more money if I tried to sell them on a site like Kijiji?

You'd get next to nothing for a broken iPhone. Especially one that old. That's why I'd try trading it in. I think they said they give a minimum of $100 off. It would be a Samsung Experience Store I think they're called. They're actual Samsung stores. They also have them inside of some Memory Express locations.

I'm in Quebec, so nothing going for a lot of stores. Canada Computers and Microbytes are the only ones that are somewhat common. Samsung Service Center is the only Samsung-related store I can find as well.

You'd get more value selling those. A5 is a decent phone btw.
