Looking for a new phone

Cole5

I'm currently using a Samsung S8 and i despise it, the phones great but the software is way worse than trash, I want something that is simple, my old Moto G was great, and i was wondering if the new motos would hold up to the performance of the S8, or if i need to shop around

I mean, the question to ask would be is do you really need th extra power? If not, just get the G5.

Just root it, install TWRP (custom recovery) and get a custom rom, I'd recommend LineageOS 15.1.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-how-to-install-twrp-root-galaxy-t3752480

if you have the snapdragon variant, look around for the guide for snapdragon s8. Installing custom roms is also easy, I'll give you a little guide from myself in a quote:

Quote

1) Back stuff up. I'm NOT responsible for any damages, thermonuclear war, dead SD cards, etc if you fail to do this before continuing.

2) Download desired ROM and gAPPS (google apps)

3) Reboot into TWRP recovery (usually hold power, home and volume down button on samsung phones)

4) Tap wipe, then swipe to wipe, DO NOT modify anything in the wipe settings unless you want to risk losing stuff that's not OS related.

5) Once wipe is done, go back to TWRP home, click install. Navigate to where your ROM was downloaded to and tap the ROM's zip file. Uncheck reboot after install.

6) Tap add more zips, go to where you downloaded your gapps and tap the gapps zip. Check the reboot after install box on this one.

7) Swipe to install.

8) Wait til it reboots.

9) Set up your phone, enjoy your refreshed phone.

Recommended GAPPS: OpenGapps

Link to opengapps downloads: http://opengapps.org/

DO NOT change the platform, your device is likely using an ARM platform. Change the android version according to what you're installing (for example, lineageos 15.1 is android 8.1, 14.1 is 7.1 etc. ALWAYS check what android version the rom you're flashing is based upon). If installing lineageos, I recommend using the pico option in the variant column, it minimises bugs.

What software are you talking about?

For example you can change the Home Screen to a different launcher, I have been using the Google Now launcher on my S7. But I think it is now the pixel something or other.
Also the google keyboard is better then the samsung

I think he's on about the ROM in general. Touchwiz really is trash, better off rooting and installing lineageos or something if you're using a samsung. Beautiful devices, shame about software that is given by default.

Carrier? Require 3.5mm jack or microsd slot? Need any specific app or feature? Anything you dislike about the S8 apart from software?

If you want a Moto phone that is as close as possible to the S8 in performance, consider the Moto X4 Android One version

Snapdragon 630, IP67, Oreo/Android One.

Also consider other well known flagships that have relatively clean OS like the LG V30, G6, Oneplus 5T.

There is also the Pixel 2nd gen phones if you don't need 3.5mm jack.

Us Cellular, Not really and  sure, Discord, Telegram and some games, And no

Oh i didnt think of the Pixel! But from what i saw US Cellular doesent offer them

So it has to come from your carrier? Are you getting it free or discounted from them? Else an unlocked phone that works with CDMA network should be fine.

Will have to drop the OP5T from the list I guess, as it does not work on CDMA.

My current p-hone is contracted and i dont have 400 doillars for a phone right now, so spending 30 a month on 2 phones is better for me than 400 in 1 go

You can download Nova Launcher (or a handful of other excellent ones) to change how the phone feels. I don't use a phone without it.
