ORACLE AMERICA, INC. v. GOOGLE LLC

Oracle moves one  stage further toward getting a ~$9.3 billion settlement from Google and possibly crippling Android development.

United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit

ORACLE AMERICA, INC.,
Plaintiff-Appellant
v.
GOOGLE LLC,
Defendant-Cross-Appellant

                ______________________
Appeals from the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in No. 3:10-cv-03561- WHA, Judge William H. Alsup.

Decided: March 27, 2018

“Because we conclude that Google’s use of the Java API packages was not fair as a matter of law, we reverse the district court’s decisions denying Oracle’s motions for JMOL and remand for a trial on damages. We also dis-miss Google’s cross-appeal.”

Yeah I'm not really worried about Android's development being crippled anytime soon, at least not from this. For one Android has been using OpenJDK based apis since nougat, has a few alternatives outside of java, and it isn't like companies will just run nillywilly away from Android over another settlement. Google will just appeal it like usual and we won't see an immediate effect for some time. (Be it in favor of Google or Oracle)

(I really didn't expect this amount of alarmist/sensationalist writing from Zdnet of all places...)

Hmm,  what a choice google or oracle?  one gives us free shit, the other actually values our privacy more.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.
