To be fair, there's no card at that level worth that kind of money. It's either desperation or justification the reason why you are buying that card at that price.

 

You have to ask yourself two questions:

1 - Are you absolutely in need of a GPU now? (Meaning, is the current card you're using struggling or dead?)

2 - Is money no object to you? (There are people that would pay any price without doing any research or they must have a lot of cash.)

 

If the answer is yes to any of these, then the power to buy one is in your hands.

Also, the common misconception about MSRP is this: S stands for suggested. That means the company that releases the product sets what the price SHOULD BE. That doesn't stop others from setting their own price. That includes many retailers. MSRP is there to give people a guideline as to what they should pay for it. If it greatly exceeds it, then you're only hurting yourself. Supply and demand is a very fickle mistress.

AMD has never been so far out of the race in the past 10 years...it's a pretty crappy time to buy an AMD radeon GPU.

Save up your money and wait until next year. We should see Navi at that point.

 

Granted, there is no way to tell how crypto will effect prices months down the road, at least you will have more to spend on in case crypto either regulates, crashes, or moons. Also, you will get the latest tech at that point.

Pretty sure Vega 56 was better than the 1070, and even with the 1070ti depending on the game, since you could just flash it to a 64 BIOS for free performance.

You also save money on your adaptive sync display with AMD.

yeah but you still get a huge hot power hungry GPU that consume twice as much to deliver slightly worse performance in most games...

you will still never match nvidia in games...Vega 56 is the price of a GTX 1080...most games are optimized better for nvidia GPU's.

Vega 56 was objectively faster than a GTX 1070, especially with the BIOS flash, it's likely the whole reason nvidia even released the GTX 1070ti.
