I’m in the process of finishing up the cables. Just one more Sata power cable for the Corsair controllers. 0F756DCE-9DE6-435F-BC5E-814A275132F2.thumb.jpeg.2d0878075341baee3326548785d9625a.jpeg

Tragedy struck. My plan to shorten and sleeve the node pro didn’t work. I attempted to test the node pro with the HD120s, and while I could light the fans with the button controller, it wouldn’t work when I had the node hooked up. Unless the node requires a usb connection and the pc powered on, I messed up the cable somehow. I am certain that the pin out is the same as before. So I ordered a commander pro, since I can’t get a replacement Node on its own.

This is for a very short run between a short 4-port Molex cable, and the Aquaero 6xt.

I made progress on the cable management and Im now ready to connect up the Aquaero and secure the shroud.  I added the new Corsair Commander Pro. It seems a shame that Im only using a couple connections on the device.

I shortened and sleeved the temp sensor fittings and got them set up in their hidden spots under the shroud.  I also installed some rubber grommets to the shroud to clean up the cable openings.

I messed up the paint on the top of the shroud when applying some super glue to the grommet on top. I don’t have time to repaint, so I applied some silver vinyl. I think it came out okay, and the silver should catch light nicely. 0F2E5363-02B5-441E-9601-EA6FED207290.thumb.jpeg.0b93d87709b1d9328981ea550ed4955c.jpeg5722AE50-C230-41C9-9EB5-C81046D1A60E.thumb.jpeg.3e37ba8c32bd973a09b272f2255c6044.jpeg

Did you remember to wipe all grease off with an some sort of ethanol based product and prime the plastic? I once painted a 980 ti when it was completely new and I forgot primer... Imagine my face when my 6000 DKK graphics card looked like that! :D Really... The entire shroud if my MSI gaming X looked that...

That can happen with just cold weather or laying it on too thick, but the fact you painted that mettalic purple shows me you now how to paint.  So my best guess is it struggled to stick.  I believe you sanded it too smooth.  When i hit my acrylic with 200-3000 it did that.  Stick to 600-1000 range, with 800 being the sweet spot.  Or hit it with some plastic primer.  I have been struggling with painting myself, and if you think flat black was hard try doing gloss black with high gloss clear coat.  I spent 3 weeks working on my painting and i just finished last night.  I had to repaint and resand and repaint a dozen times.  I learned alot over the past 14 days of painting.

You def have some skills bro, I can see your next build going scratch build.  I am thinking of getting white vue when it comes out but i see you had some issues so maybe i wont..... I dunno...

Feel free to check out my painting blunders in my current build

I was reading your build log yesterday and thought that it looked like we had some similar struggles. Ive got to admire your dedication spending a full 3 weeks on painting. I think I spent 4-5 days, and did 2 retries.

Actually, the purple paint is the only painting on the build that I did not do myself. That was done by a local auto painter.  Ill keep those grits in mind for the next time.  I was originally going for a flat black base with a glossy clear coat.

Since I accidentally ruined the finish with superglue, I ended up doing a vinyl wrap.  I like the look of that, since the silver will reflect the lights more.

Thanks my friend!  I would enjoy doing a scratch build.  Hopefully I could do one for my fiancee,

Yeah, the Vue looks amazing, but I dont think I could ever use it again. I spent over a month going back and forth with Primochill support, and they sent me a new prep fluid, but I still wont use Vue.  Im still a big fan of Primochill though. I love their fittings and sleeving.

How much did they charge? Its too late now, but i was thinking about doing that after the 4th or 5th fail.  Lol, I was about to say your an amazing painter originally, when i first saw how clean that mettalic purple came out.

Want to know what all the youtube painting pro's say?

EVERY video i watched, every single one, the consensus is always the same.

The 2 hardest things to paint, is metallics and gloss black.

1.) Metallics because if you dont do nice even sweeps, the particles wont look natural and be evenly spaced out.

2.) Gloss black because black shows the SHEEN and every imperfection in it perfectly.  Every scratch, bump, orange peel, texture, everything, shows up so well, and it has to be laid down FLAWLESSLY to look good.  Its so hard without a spray gun, and using rattle cans.

Of course you and I choose the hardest colors lol.   I should have gone to an autobody shop.

She charged me about 250USD for the job, and did it in less than 10 days.  I know that she used House of Kolor paints.  Im definitely not a pro painter haha, Im much too impatient.

I agree with the pros, thats what I heard as well, and thats why I outsourced it. I had wanted to buy the gear and do it myself, but I have no room in my apt for large tool storage.

Yeah, we picked the hard ones! lol

I'm definetly ordering his D5 pump cover, top and reservoir for my next build, and probably some mounts... And some cable combs. This is gonna be expensive.

Lots of progress today. the pump, Aquaero and two UV LEDs are plugged into a custom cable that is within the shroud. Because this cable terminates in a 6 pin peripheral connector, I had no choice but to run it from the actual PSU.

Now when I tuned it on for the first time, with just the aforementioned components plugged in, the UV LED sparked and started on fire. Like actual fire. I turned it off immediately and blew out the little flame.

Now nothing will turn on, though the fan test button on the PSU works, so I’m unsure of where the issue is. Could the LED be preventing the rest from powering on?

The only thing that could have happened with the LED is that perhaps I reversed the pinout when I resleeved it. However I don’t think that happened, since I marked wires and payed attention to the connector orientation.

Does any one know what could have happened? Perhaps @W-L

You might have tripped the short circuit protection on your PSU you'll need to unplug all the cable the replug them that should reset the unit if nothing is turning on currently. As for those UV LED's did you add a resistor inline?

I’ll try that. Thank you.

No, I didn’t add any resistors, as they didn’t originally have one. By the way, these are Darkside UV single LEDs being powered by a molex to 2x 2pin darkside connect adapter.

What voltage are you putting them through they require inline resistors as regular 3mm and 5mm LED's only run at ~3.0V @20mA depending on color. They should have resistors prebuilt into place under the heatshrink from what I'm seeing in their specs.

I went and checked the discarded original cables, and it looks like I cut it off right behind the resistors that were inline. They were very slim and I didn’t notice them below the sleeve.  Bad luck there.

I removed the LEDs, and unplugged the psu of all connections. Following that, the pump worked properly.

However, when filling, I discovered that a fitting on the side radiator has a small leak. Not catastrophic, but it dripped some fluid down the side fans.

Im going to pick up some 90 degree pliers to attempt to fix it without having to disassemble the whole loop.

I’ve disassembled the rig to get access to that leaky port. At first I thought it may have been the O-ring between the fitting and the rad, but after swapping it out (new fitting, new O-ring), still leaky. I made sure the rad was dry, then shook it gently to try to pinpoint the leak. It appears to be coming from the inside of the frame, on the edge of the fins. Looks like I’ll need to order a new rad.

Since this is the 2nd EK rad that leaked, I’ll pick up a different brand

Yeah, I loved how my Ek rads looked (PE  360 and SE 240) but both of the extensions on the 360 kinda fell off.  Not super impressed with EK anymore, I generally recommend hardwarelabs radiators (aquacomputer makes some nice ones as well)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

I agree, I had the extensions come off very easily on all 3 of the EK 360s, two of which leaked from the frame.  EK was helpful with the first one and replaced it. I wont try asking them to replace the replacement, since its been so long.

I decided on a Bitspower Leviathan 360 slim. The 4 G1/4 ports will make the tube routing easier in the PSU side of the chassis.  Should arrive from PPCs on friday.  I would have gone with the HWlabs multi port, but it was too thick, so clearance with the filter would be an issue.

I replaced the radiator, fixed some cable management, and redid a few of the sections. I changed up the pump outlet/ drain port, the side radiator to pump inlet, and completely changed the tubing in the back side.

The filling went well. Bleeding the loop was tricky, but I think I got all the big bubbles in the blocks out.

Next up is connecting all the cables and adding the HDD cage35315D1F-0079-4478-8BDA-7A89F653651C.thumb.jpeg.36e7a86ef1823add8920252e5058a2d3.jpegDB4598F2-4522-4BD5-9F1B-40D414C93136.thumb.jpeg.9a73bf2b12bab985ec682e414f3ca580.jpeg

I still need to add my personal decorations.  The left monitor is an LG 29" ultrawide, and the right is a 27" Dell 4K monitor. That one should be great for productivity!

I also used some leftover fittings and a marble block to create a ring/pen/wacom pen stand.  You can also see the GPU air cooler in a shadowbox on the wall (Thank you to my fiancee for that gift!)
