Do SSD really make a difference??

Do SSD really make a difference?? I'm thinking of getting just a 2TB Hard Drive and I was just wondering would an SSD make a big difference?

Huge difference if you are using the SSD for  your OS and programs. My start up time is less than 20 sec. They are not cost effective for large data storage so use a HDD for your music/movies/filles/etc, set your download file and music/video library to your storage drive.

In game it makes next to zero different. Short load-screens. Booting up takes me about 11 seconds on an older ssd.

It makes a bigger difference than upgrading every other part in the system combined.

But really, it makes a world of difference in the usability and snappiness of the system.

Edit: Btw, it may be hard to believe until you actually sit down and use one for a few days before going back to a disgustingly slow hdd.

Apart from GPU in my opinion, it has to be the biggest and most important upgrade from a HDD.

It depends when you are doing/how bloated the programs you use are. A lightweight program that opens instantly isn't a very good test, but something bloated from Adobe, you will see Photoshop open from a cold start ~2seconds vs waiting forever.

SSD's has changed my life forever, i actually have a longer lifespan because of the time ive saved loading windows/ adobe master suite CS6 programs, etc... actually EVERYTHING. I will never go back and i will never build a pc without one, no matter what the purpose is for. " Once you go Solid State, you'll never be late" - Kyaku copyrighted that sh!t.

Yes but you will definitely need a hard drive as well. SSD space is expensive so you only store applications that will benefit on it (i.e. the OS and other frequently used programs). Everything else goes on the HDD. Media, documents etc. 250GB is optimal size to get and HDD is up to you. You can get away with 120GB SSD but you are going to always be conscious that it is going to fill up. Really you should only fill an SSD to 85% capacity.

I agree, or you can go hybrid, or you can raid it So you cache off the ssd, store on hdd

It indeed does make a difference :)

Faster boot times, faster program loading, more responsive in general use. I'd say it's well worth it, but you will still probably need an HDD for mass storage.

any cheap SSD will be an upgrade over a HDD. You should just get a low cost 64gb SSD (only for windows +programs) in addition to whatever storage drive you get if you're on a budget. It is a must have nowadays.
