Laptop fan issue HP ProBook

Priam017

I have a HP ProBook 440 G1 laptop, and the cooling fan isnt working. It boots into windows and everything, but the fan doesn't spin. It only spins for a split second and then cuts off (as if it got power only for a split second). I have disassembled the laptop carefully (it still works) and I want to know what the issue is. Is there a way for me to test the fan outside of the system? What is the reason the fan is behaving like this? Any and all help is appreciated, Thanks! ☺️

Fans can die. Might want to order a replacement.

plug out the fan, get 4 AA battery, connect them in serial so they will generate 6 volt.

now with some wire, connect + to the red wire hole and - to the black wire hole. and it should run.

Is the CPU/GPU even hot enough for the fan to start spinning?

The fan spins when connected to a lipo battery of 3.7ish volts. It works just fine like that.

I did notice that one of the temperature on CPU-Z HWMONITOR (motherboard>pchz something like that) shows 124° C which is weird. Also, SpeedFan doesn't detect any CPU Fan at all.

The fan always used to spun when the laptop was booted, it's a 3-4 year old laptop, so it doesn't have the no noise system that modern Ultrabooks have got.

wow, that can boil water!

i'm surprised the laptop doesn't turn off.

The fan should be broken, you should get a replacement.

It's cheap anyway, since you can put it there yourself, no need to pay for extra service.
