So, I was watching Austins' video on why the iPhone 8 exists when there's the iPhone 10, and it got me thinking...

After cramming so much into the X, face unlock, animoji, wireless charging, etc, What do you guys think the next phone will be like if there even is one?

And if not that then, Where do you see Apple in the future.

I ask because I can't comprehend what's next for their products and itself as a company.

Well, something tells me that Apple isn't going to stop producing the thing that produces like 95% of their profit.

There next phone will be the same as any other phone, incremental improvements -- better camera, faster SoC, better battery life, Face ID 2.0, etc...

The iPhone X is the design going forward, so they will just keep improving year over year on said design.

Something similar to the iPhone X most likely. Flagship phones often have phones that are below them... Did iPhone 7 eat iPhone 9 or something or am I just really late to the joke...

So I guess you could say that we've hit a limit? Like, From now on companies will focus on improving battery life, camera's etc as you said.

I don't think this is the case because after the i7 I had an idea of improvements that would come but nothing compared to the iPhone X.

I believe there's still a lot that we can do to improve phones among other products (additional features) but I can't think of any right now.

That's what all companies have really been doing for like five years now. It's been making a bigger screen, making smaller bezels, adding fingerprint/facial recognition, adding a second camera, improving the SoC, improving battery life, thinner, etc....

That's really interesting actually, I guess they have. It's not like any of them came out with something completely new at one time, From what i can recall, It's all been done gradually. I mean take the iPhone camera for instance, That's something Apple has been improving for a very long time, with each phone bringing an upgrade to the last (4K, Slow motion, etc). So I guess you're right, as long as companies continue to improve upon camera's battery life and everything else, We shouldn't really get to a stage of "having done everything we could".

Hopefully it happens when wireless charge is ubiquitous and the phone itself can power accessories wirelessly, otherwise you'll just end up having to charge 5-6 devices every night and having to bring the wireless charger with you at all times.

I would say it's mostly because they've ran out of legitimately useful features and are just looking for new gimmicks to justify the purchase of a new device. Realistically, most people would be able to do everything they need with a midrange phone from 3 years ago.

As software improves and advances, It's going to increase the demand on the parts within phones like the CPU.

When this happens, It will force most companies to improve the internals of their phones although we are kinda above the requirements of software in terms of internals with the iPhoneX and other phones.

Maybe, but honestly I can't think of too many reasons new software should require more processing power (in a phone). Most people use their phone as an agenda, a browser/video viewer, internet messaging and phone calls - all of this could be done quite smoothly in 2013.

Yeah, I guess you're right, But as I said I'm just getting my thoughts down. Also, When typing that I was thinking about the future far from now, Like 20 years.

May not seem that long but it is in this industry.

I'm not saying that they should stop making phones, what I'm saying is that the overall public opinion appears to be that people don't like apple's recent changes. As a consumer, I would prefer more features instead of less, so the removal of the home button, touch ID and the 3.5mm headphone jack sure look like steps backward in my eyes.

Or that $1000 is just too much, or because a lot of people upgrade every two years and so they got a 7 instead, or because subsidized phones through contracts have been becoming less and less common over the years and so people are upgrading less not that phones cost much more.

I don't think most people care about the lack of a home button (other than being afraid of change). And the same is likely true in regards to Touch ID as long as Face ID is equally good -- there's an argument there as to whether or not it is -- it's technically slower than Touch ID gen 2, but that's made up for by the fact that you don't have to unlock and then position your finger on the screen. It's also technically easier to fool, but you don't use biometric security if you care about security. Face ID does tend to fail more than Touch ID if you happen to use it at odd angles or when your lying down (e.g. your face is obscured by a pillow), so it definitely does have its downsides, but then again, it also has some upsides compared to Touch ID -- works with gloves, doesn't require you to move your finger after unlocking, allows you to 3D touch into a message and respond to it without having to unlock first, etc...
