mining with 1060 laptop

Anyone have any experience with the long term effects of running a gpu at 100% load constantly? I have an acer predator helios 300 which has a gtx 1060 6 gb. im just trying to figure everything out and this is what i have to work with, im just wondering how long until i do some sort of long term damage. Temps are at 65 c under full load with no load on cpu. Im going to change thermal paste just waiting for better supplys to come in the mail.

you can, but dont expect it to earn money fast. You cant flash a mining vbios in there and the inhernet low clock speed wont let it go fast.

thats not what im expecting, im making roughly $1.70 - 2.00 a day on nicehash im just trying to learn more about mining as this is the first time iv had a dedicated gpu to work with. i got this laptop mostly for gaming just because the way gpu prices were and i usually only run it overnight. Either way it has a 2 year warranty so im not thinking about it too much i was just wondering if its fine to run it 24/7

btw $1.70 - $2.00 is for a full 24 hours not just overnight

I would check the warranty. They might stipulations that state if they suspect the card was used outside its designed purpose that they will not support  your claim.

 

Having a card going at 100% in a situation where cooling is not ideal is asking for trouble. You are going to put heat strain on ALL of your components not just your GPU.

Nope that's a great way to kill the battery and every other component in the laptop.

Just keeping this here as a I have a clevo laptop with a 1060 in it. The cooling system is pretty solid and it cools down the GPU to about 75C when I'm mining Zencash or verge. The fans might wear out faster than usual but a fan should be a cheaper replacement than a gpu itself. Either way, don't really expect much return from mining. Another thing to note is I only mine when my laptop is in an air conditioned room.

I've mined for a couple of months and got to the conclusion that cooling ALL the parts of your rig is essential. You are probably checking your GPU core temps, but are you overlooking your VRAM and other components temps? Also, if you do it, take the battery out, they really suffer from heat.

I think you're fine. But I would def run it at a lower TDP and you seem to just be curiously experiementing with it, so I doubt you will do this for long.

if you want to do this for more than say, a month. then go buy a cheap PC and a PCIe riser and a real 1060 and put together a little rig for yourself.
