Welp. Nearly blinded my self with a tantalum capacitor.

Or don't use cheap capacitors. Maybe even both. 

Tantalums tend to be violent when abused, that has nothing to do with being cheap, just the nature of that particular capacitor type. Each type of capacitor (electrolyte, tantalum, ceramic,...) has it's pro's and con's and the optimal type to use depends on the application.
