So I need to send off my CPU to RMA it however I am a bit unsure on how to safely send it. It will go back in the tin it came in however what do I need to do to keep the pins safe and protect it from static shock?

Put back in original packaging and wrap it in bubble wrap. Then put it in small box or envelope and ship it. :)

Is wrapping the CPU itself in bubble wrap going to cause any damage to it?

Most likely to the pins. I recommend putting it back in the plastic protection it came in (this applies to both AMD and Intel)

Unfortunately I don't have the plastic it came in, I only have the CPU, Heat sink and Tin. Any other ideas?

If you're RMAing isn't it already broken?

It is unstable at stock voltages so not completely broken.

Mine came with little blue box that had some soft foam inside. Nothing else. Gotta love Tray packed cpus. Can't remember if previous had more packaging.

To OP, cpu hasn't got any moving parts. So unless its crushed purposely buble wrap and antistatic bag do fine. You can borrow antistatic bag from hdd etc for thatpurpose. Using term "fragile" in package isn't guarantee of good service.

As long as you can keep the pins from bending, just about any packaging that fits in an envelope will be fine. CPU's don't get damaged by shocks or drops, as long as they don't crack through the middel (which is freaking hard to do).

That's definitely useful to know, thanks!

Steel Vault (900lbs)?

Seriously;the org packaging is fine if you have some. Other wise a plastic container (like the org. packaging) should also be fine. You don't need a static bag for it. Use foam as well on the outer box just in case, @ all times.

To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
