Gpu works but no video. Dead mobo?

Hey guys

I'm having this issue

Me and my brother cleaned his pc, and when I put it back it turned on, all fans running but no video.

I took out his gpu and tried on my system and it worked fine, what else could it be?

How do I diagnose a dead cpu or mobo?

have you tried clearing the cmos? also check for some cables that you may have forgotten (happens way too often)

I double checked the cables, but I will try clearing the cmos

Try also making sure the PCIE slot is clean, clear, and free of dust and particles that could have gotten in there since you took the card out to clean everything.

I looked in there and it seemed ok, i'll try to buy a vga cable so I can get in the bios and see if it is detecting a gpu

I would have checked if you tightened the cpu cooler too much or put some unnecessary pressure on the motherboard while screwing stuff back on, (also I had issues with AS5 thermal paste when I applied too much my computer would simply refuse to boot.)

Tried to get in bios trough vga cable and it worked, gpu got video and worked through Hdmi, but the thing is that it is not working without the on board graphics plugged in, if I have the gpu on Hdmi and the integrated on vga it works but only gpu it does not

have you tried placing the gpu at a different pcie slot? (also you can force video output through bios settings, something like init display: IGPU,PCIE etc)

I only have one pcie, I'm trying to find that option but it is not showing up

If I have the on onboard gpu in, the gpu works, when I disconnect the onboard it stops working, and I'm using the external gpu hdmi

Yes

Change the setting in the bios for it to use the pcie slot and not the onboard graphics. It's defaulting to the cpu's onboard graphics..

Already did, it still only will show video if the vga on the mobo is connected

It got  even crazier, on my brother monitor it worked fine (????????????)
