Is there away to delete stock windows apps?

Its_Nathan

Is there any way I can remove stock windows apps like Windows Media Player, Windows Mail, Internet Explorer, Windows Photo Viewer, Windows Multimedia Platform, I'm sure you understand what I mean, you cant just delete these files, these are protected by trusted installer but is there any way to gain higher authority to delete these useless files.

yah you can nuke them from powershell iirc

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Some of those you can "remove" by going to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Windows Features. I say "remove" because the applications will linger in the system somewhere in some inactive or unusable state. i.e., it's the same as the "Disable" function in Android for apps.

However, I don't recommend outright deleting anything that Windows comes with by default. Disabling them through OS provided means is fine. Otherwise all developers assume you're using the default settings and modifying the system in non-natively provided ways can lead to odd errors. So unless you're basically running a "frozen" build, I don't recommend deleting system things.

However this doesn't actually remove them from the disk. A lot of them live in the system folder.

Why do you want to remove them? Do you really need the few MB saved? They are very small programs.

Please note that:

 - Removing fully Window Media Player or Internet Explorer will most likely make some of your programs or even games crash or not operate properly with no fix beside system restore to bring your system back in time undoing the removal, or re-install the OS. These are ActiveX elements which programs can embedded in itself to display content. So if it is missing, the program that uses it might not operate properly or crash.

 - Removing Windows Media Player fully may also remove the OS codecs, making it unable to play video or music without using a player that uses all its codec inside itself.

The best way to remove it, is, as everyone mentioned, to use Program & Feature panel and uncheck Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player (or use teh powershell command that does the same), which will not remove the OS codecs (in the case of WMP), and won't remove the ActiveX components, so no software will be affected.
