What gpu to buy with £500? if any

Dalynx

Good afternoon all, i recently sold my gtx 1080 for £510 in light of the recent "Issues" with gpu production rate. i'm now not sure what gpu to get , if any, as prices seem to keep rising on all cards, an with no one being able to fully pinpoint the next big gpu release i have no clue what to do, i could get another gtx 1080 but have to wait possible months for it to actually get to me , which by then the new gen of cards could have even released, or i could just wait, but how long , an will £500 even be enough to get nvidia's next big thing? looking for genuine advice as to how to avoid pissing £500 up a wall

Thanks guys N' girls. Have a good one

Why did you sell it in the first place? If you don't need it right now, i'd with it out. Prices will drop one day. Samsung is making mining chips so i guess a bit of hype will go towards that direction soon

wanted to take advantage of the whole used gpus being worth as much as new, there's no new releases that i'm in love with till MHW in august so it was pretty much sat here

I sold it because its worth as much used as it was new, an since the only new release i want is monster hunter, it seemed silly not to capitalize on the free cash

well, if you want to fully take advantage of the high value of used and new cards you will have to wait until prices drop or a next generation is released which still might take quite some time. So I dunno, don't game until then?

Well, as i said before, if you dont need it right now, wait for the prices to drop or try to make a deal with a pc store/manufacturer that you will use it only for gaming and if they can give it to you at a lower price. A bunch of local sellers in slovenia tend to sell them at lower prices if you buy just 1 and convince them you'll only be gaming

Find a local deal on something like a 1050 ti or 1060 3gb if you get lucky you will get it at a non- inflated price

CPU: Ryzen 1700@3.9ghz; GPU: EVGA 560 Ti 1gb; RAM: 16gb 2x8 Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3000; PCPP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3xzzM

I assume you're saying just get some cheap shit card for now then go big in a few months? as if that was the case an old 780 would suit just fine :)

I would get a 960 for similar performance but better efficiency.

The next stuff seems to be Ampere, but who knows if it's any good at mining.

maybe snag a 1050ti until then? although even those are getting more expensive now. The release dates are very speculative and there is no pressure on nvidia at all since they are selling their old architecture extremely well and there is no competition in the high end from amd

something wrong with my brain :D but the advantage of the 780 isnt always noticeable.

700 series just didnt age well.

Only sometimes, unless you have and look at the power meter.

Just buy a used GTX 970 for now for like £80-130 and save your money until the prices come down.

A 970 is even VR compatible so it's still a very good card and it's going for super cheap right now.
